Founded in 1868, the University of California (UCB) is the oldest of all ten campuses of the University of California located in the city of Berkeley. Berkeley is a Northern Californian city located on the east side of San Francisco Bay. Started with 10 faculty members and 40 students in 3 fields of study, UCB has more than 1,600 faculty and 42,000 students in 130 academic departments and 80 interdisciplinary research units today, offering over 350-degree programs.
