What is Olympiad Exam?

Olympiads are the competitive exams conducted at school levels based on the school curriculum/syllabus. The exams are conducted by many independent organizations (private and governmental organizations) on the national level, international level, and zonal level, which give exposure to the school kids in the competitive world. Olympiads are one of the best school competitive exams conducted at both the national and international levels.

Olympiad Exams are conducted for various subjects like Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), Mathematics, Junior Science, Astronomy, Computer, General Knowledge, and Language Exams. Students get scholarships, cash prizes, medals, certificates, and recognition & even exposure on the zonal level, national level, and international level. It also gives the students space to do research and train themselves for the area of interest for a brighter future.

List of Olympiad 2020 Exams Conducted in India

The main aim of the competitive Olympiad Exams is to improve intellectual skills, logical skills, and reasoning capabilities. Besides, Olympiad Exams are a combination of subject knowledge along with the aptitude test. The list of different Olympiad 2020 exams which is conducted in India are mentioned below:

1. Science Olympiad Foundation

SOF is a non-profit private organization that popularizes healthy academic competition and assists in the development of competitive spirit among school students. SOF organization was established by leading academicians, scientists, and media personalities to promote Science, Mathematics, Computer Education, Language, General Knowledge, and Professional courses. 

Science Olympiad Foundation has been striving for close to 25 years to develop scientific and researcher attitudes among students through innovative activities and IT in the learning process that involves schools across the globe.

2. Unified Council

The Unified Council board consists of a group of experienced teachers and professionals who have had intense involvement in the field of education. The hands-on and real-life experience helps the team create and implement legit solutions based on the needs of schools and teachers. 

It was established in 1998 by eminent personalities from various fields, including many academicians of international repute. Since the council's starting years, Unified Council had tried to put together a team of individuals from the field of education in an endeavour to make the younger generation fundamentally stronger, sharper, and to nourish the student's brains for challenging future.

These solutions are based on the firm foundation of the curriculum and educational research. Students from India, Tanzania, UAE, KSA, Yemen, Oman, Iran, Qatar, Kuwait, Indonesia, and Nepal are only eligible to participate in Unified Council Exams.

3. ASSET

ASSET Olympiad Exams is a scientifically designed test which benchmarks a student's performance and gives students a report analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. Rather than testing the memory or the ability to remember formulas and definitions, ASSET tries to get students to apply the concepts in various hypothetical situations where a student's higher-order thinking skills are tested. 

ASSET also provides two other reports for the teacher (of the particular subject) and the management with instructions on where all the students lack and how to work on the weaknesses and make them understand concepts better. 

It helps in benchmarking the school's performance, misconceptions that students carry behind every concept, and teacher effectiveness while teaching the students. The report not only measures the student's performance but also measures the teacher's performance along with the school benchmarking. ASSET conducts three Olympiads under English, Maths, and Science.

4. TERI

TERIIN is an independent, multi-dimensional Foundation, with capabilities in research, policy, consultancy, and implementation. TERI act as innovators and agents of change in the energy, environment, climate change, and sustainability space. It has pioneered conversations for making it a better place to live in and action in these areas for over four decades.

GREEN Olympiad is an associate annual written examination on setting initiated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 1999. The examination is conducted by setting the Education & Awareness space (EEA) of TERI and attracting faculty students across India and abroad.

The examination is open just for colleges related to recognized education boards and academic trusts. Students registered in such colleges from grades IV to X are eligible for the examination.

5. SilverZone Olympiads

The SilverZone Foundation conducts SilverZone Olympiad Exams. The SilverZone Foundation is an NGO that is purely dedicated to improve and promote competitive spirit awareness of academics among school students in India and abroad. The SilverZone (a non-profit organization) is registered with XXI 18760 under the Delhi Government's registration rule. 

The SilverZone organization achieves its goal by organizing and conducting International Olympiad Exams. Outstanding performance in the Olympiad Exams by students are identified based on merit and are given recognition in the form of certificates, medals, trophies, and prizes.

The SilverZone Foundation believes that the examination should be challenging and motivating so that students continuously improve the academic performance and pursue academic excellence relentlessly. The student participation and conduct of the examination should be in a hassle-free environment. 

The Olympiad Exams are conducted to enhance the reasoning, logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills of students in a highly competitive and global environment to help in building a solid foundation for national/international competitive examinations.

6. EduHeal Foundation

EduHeal Foundation helps identify the most talented students across the country. It does so by using three levels of exams to filter the elite. The three levels measure the student's intellect and select them for the next round. The final level is a sponsored program by world-class institutions and organizations worldwide, which exposes students to research in each domain. People working in various fields also mentor there. EduHeal also conducts online exams along with paper-based tests. 

The paper-based Olympiad Exams are limited for the first round (some exams are undertaken only online). The level-2 exam will be conducted exclusively online at more than 200+ computer centres/1000+ school computer centers around the world. EduHeal Foundation provides students who have crossed specific criteria to visit ISRO and Bombay Stock Exchange (BCE) to meet with eminent personalities and be a part of national workshops. 

All successful students (100%) get the coveted EHF certificate (useful during college admissions), and 33% of top rankers receive the medals. Level 2 merit students will win tablets, laptops, scholarships, and more. Besides, level 3 students will win fabulous prizes given by the sponsor. The certificate will carry the logo of the iconic BSE (in case of the BIFO Olympiad Exam) and the prestigious ISRO (in case of NSSO Olympiad Exam), making these certificates invaluable.

EduHeal Foundation (EHF) is a registered NGO that conducts different Olympiad Exams for different subjects and encouraged by main educationists, corporate heads, and media doyens. EHF is actively engaged in searching for talented school students by reaching out to 4000 schools. EHF is the official partner of google from India and spearheads the google science fair initiative into Indian schools. Also, it has partnered with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Institute for promoting financial literacy.

Being a year-long process with stiff deadlines, an early decision to participate will be appreciated. School coordinators have to send the consent of participation in the enclosed registration form.

7. Humming Bird Education

HummingBird is one of India’s top brands in education. With a highly experienced board of directors and a team of advisors consisting of leading academicians & educators all over the globe, Hummingbird Education’s goal is to transform the school level education by developing the competitive spirit among individuals. 

By making students develop the right attitude while enhancing the logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, Humming Bird Education is doing its best to create future leaders. Humming Bird has increased its franchise and spread to the district level as well. Hummingbird is now conducting the Exams in Hindi and Tamil along with English and has received a positive response leading it to announce that it will try to hold the Olympiad Exam in most regional languages possible from the 2020 session. 

Humming Bird was started in 2010 and offered three Olympiads for students to choose from. Over the years, it has added eight more exams to provide a total of twelve Olympiad Exams with the most recent addition being the SpellB Olympiad.

8. International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)

IAIS is an internationally conducted examination customized for students of primary and secondary school.

Olympiad Exams are overseen by Educational Assessments Australia (EEA), a part of UNSW Global. Australia’s leading research and teaching universities which own UNSW Global and are responsible for the development of ICAS are the University of New South Wales. ICAS administers these exams in over 20 countries across the world.

9. HBCSE

The idea of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) started in the late 1960s when some scientists at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) decided to improve the quality of science taught in India. The program started with the scientists teaching students in Mumbai and a few places in rural Madhya Pradesh. 

The idea grew to become HBCSE in 1974, supported by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). HBCSE works on the improvement of science and mathematics education and to bring out quality education material. At present, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) is a National Centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai. To reach its goal, HBCSE does several interrelated activities. They are:

  • Research and development
  • Teacher education and science popularisation
  • Olympiad Exams, NIUS, and other students' nurture programs

10. UNICUS Olympiads

Unicus Olympiad is India's first summer Olympiad Exam introduced to encourage students to adopt the concept-driven method of studying. The method enhances students' questioning curiosity, which assists them in answering all why, what, how, when, and where questions. Unicus Olympiads encourages students by offering them certificates. Besides, they also provide medals and scholar trophies for deserving students who stand ahead in this stiff competition.

11. Indian Talent Olympiad (ITO)

Indian Talent Olympiad was introduced in 2012 to identify talented students and train them to improve their academic performance to enhance conceptual learning. The individual Olympiad exams conducted under the Indian Talent Olympiad focus on the knowledge, level of understanding, and reasoning abilities of students all across India under different subjects of their academics. Considering records, it is notable that 31,573 schools across India have registered for Indian Talent Olympiad examinations, and over the past one year, ITO has won trust over one crore parents.

Indian Talent Olympiad conducts 8 individual exams under Maths, Science, English, Social Sciences, General Knowledge, Arts (Dance), Essay Writing, and Computer Science. Indian Talent Olympiad exam dates for all the eight individual exams as been listed in the table.

12. Crest Olympiad

The CREST Olympiad is an international competitive exam held online for students in classes 1-10, which is divided into various levels. The exam is an objective-type test that the students need to complete in 60 minutes. Follow the link to know more about Crest Olympiad.

13. NMMS

NMMS is the scholarship exam that is conducted in every state. The government-sponsored scheme "National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)" was first launched in May 2008. The objective of the NMMS scheme is to award scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out of class VIII and encourage them to continue studying at the secondary stage. 

Scholarship of Rs. 12,000/- per annum (Rs.1000/- per month) is awarded to selected students every year to study in classes IX to XII in state government schools.

14. NTSE

The Government of India established the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in the year 1961 to bring about qualitative improvement in school education in the country. The council started several programs towards its vision, and one such program was the identifications and nurturing of talented students and was called the National Talent Search Exam (NTSE).

15. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY)

KVPY is an on-going National Fellowship Program in basic sciences, which is initiated and funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract highly motivated students to pursue basic science degree courses and research careers in science mathematics subject. 

The KVPY program's objective is to identify talented students with an aptitude for research and help them realize their academic potential and encourage them to take up research careers in the science field and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.

16. National Olympiad Foundation (NOF)

National Olympiad Foundation constitutes docking of academic talent and social entrepreneurship, helping the ability to come out from the classroom walls.

National Olympiad Foundation conducts one of its global talent search exams where the resources are utilized for students in need who are ignorant about education. NOF has its extensive features that are not undermined by any other organization in India, e.g., NOF is first to introduce Olympiad Exams in Commerce, GK, and Biology. NOF acts as a bookmark to benchmark. NOF is an organization of academic examinations conducted across the country. An exclusive body of academicians of national and international fame prepares all the questions for the exam.

17. Southeast Asian Mathematics Olympiad (SEAMO)

SEAMO was introduced in 2016, serving both primary and secondary schools in Southeast Asian countries. Olympiad Exam provides a realistic & neutral perspective to each student on their ability & skills; aims at promoting excellence in every sphere of school learning. 

It presents a common platform that assesses students' problem-solving ability by compelling them to think deeply. Besides, it encourages students to develop logical & analytical thinking ability.

18. Technothlon

Technothlon is a competition conducted for school students internationally by the student body of IIT Guwahati. Starting with a group of students in a small room in 2004 to “Inspire Young Minds.” The competition started with students in the city of Guwahati and has expanded to more than 400 cities in the past 14 years with various centers abroad.

The championship is conducted in two rounds:

  1. Prelims: Prelim is a written exam which is done all over India in multiple schools in July.

  2. Mains: Mains is a competition where teams participate in different events conducted in Technique, the Techno-Management festival of IIT Guwahati.

19. Indian Computing Olympiad (ICO)

Indian Computing Olympiad is a nationwide Olympiad organized annually by IARCS. The goal of the exam is to identify school students with outstanding skills in algorithms and computer programming. The four students representing India at the IOI World finals are selected through the Indian Computing Olympiad (ICO). The first ICO was organized way back in 2002; however, it got its name in 2006. The Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS) organizes the ICO every year.

20. Indian School Talent Search Exam (ISTSE)

Indian School Talent Search Exam (ISTSE) is an international level talent search examination for Indian school students. ISTSE is a scientifically designed, skill-based assessment test to get the strengths and weaknesses of individual students across India.

ISTSE is designed to assess the overall intellectual potential of the students from class 1 to 10. It uses conceptual, multiple-choice questions to focus on measuring how well the student has understood the skills and concepts underlying the school syllabus. ISTSE exam is conducted separately for students who applied online, i.e., individually and for students who applied through respected schools.

21. International Life Skill Olympiad (ILSO)

ILSO is the world's first online Olympiad to test young students' critical life skills quotient and compare them with the most skilled children's across the globe. Students of class III-XII from all over the world can test life skills aptitude using real-world scenario-based questions.

While preparing for the ILSO exam, students will also get exposed and acquire new life skills. With students participating from 100+countries, they all get to learn and evolve as truly global citizens.

22. National Economics Olympiad (NEO)

National Economics Olympiad conducted by the Shri Ram College of Commerce is a nationwide school Olympiad for students of classes 11 and 12. To be eligible for the Olympiad students should be pursuing their higher education in any recognized education board of India.

NEO Exam aims at assessing students knowledge on fundamental concepts on Economics. The exam has two rounds of the preliminary and final round. Both the rounds are conducted online as multiple-choice questions. The preliminary exam has four sections, including Economics, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, and Case Studies. Top-performing participants NEO Exam are awarded cash prizes and scholarships.

For less than ten students in a school, it is not viable for the foundation to hold the Olympiad 2020 Exams. Hence at least ten students should be enrolled from a school so that a school becomes a center. 

Can I take part in more than one Olympiad 2020 exam?

Yes, Students can take part in more than one Olympiad Exams. Although conducted by the same Foundation, NCO, NSO, IMO, IEO, IGKO, and ICO are entirely different competitions. Students can register for all the Olympiad Exams in a year as per class eligibility.

When are the results of the Olympiad Exams declared?

Results of the Olympiad Exams are declared within eight weeks of each examination. The results will be sent to the concerned schools. The Olympiad results are also made available on the individual organization website. 

I have already appeared for the Olympiad Exams while I was in a lower class? Can I give Olympiad Exams again?

Yes, this will allow you to improve your previous Olympiad Exams rankings, and if you are successful in doing so, you will again be eligible for certificates and prizes.
