UCEED 2026 Exam Date Out! IIT Bombay conducts the UCEED exam every year for admissions into B.Des programs into various top IIT colleges. The UCEED 2026 exam date has been announced and will be held on Jan 18, 2026 (Sunday). The UCEED exam timing will be 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The UCEED 2026 application form will be available online tentatively from Oct 1, 2025. The last date to apply will be by the end on October 2025. To fulfil the UCEED 2026 eligibility criteria, you need to have passed your 12th.

The exam will be conducted by IIT Bombay in two parts. The admit card for the same will be out a week before the scheduled exam date. About UCEED Exam

Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) is a national-level entrance Examination that offers admission into the B.Des program at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIITDM Jabalpur, and many other institutes.

IIT Bombay has the exclusive rights to conduct UCEED 2026 and decide about the admissions rules and the allotment of seats. The course offered through 2026 UCEED is Bachelor of Design (B.Des). Candidates from the science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their subjects are eligible to apply for all four institutions, i.e., IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, and IITDM Jabalpur.

In contrast, the ones with other streams ( arts, commerce, and science without mathematics, physics, or chemistry) are eligible to apply only to IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur.

You can attempt the UCEED exam a maximum of two times in consecutive years. You must secure a good UCEED rank to secure admission in B.Des programs. For admission to the BDes program at the partnering institutions, IIT Bombay administers the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED).

1. New Registration

The ones registering for the UCEED 2026 exam for the first time can follow the steps below.

  • Step 1: You must go to the official website.
  • Step 2: Now click on 'Examination' > 'Registration' to access the UCEED registration form.
  • Step 3: Now, click on "Registration Portal"  and select "Register" if you are a first-time applicant. (If not, select Login)
  • Step 4: Enter the email ID with which you want to register yourself. Then click on "Register" to proceed.

2. Upload Credentials/ Documents

After registering as a new user, you can follow the steps given below to complete the UCEED application process 2026.

  • Step 1: You must click the "Fill out the Registration Form" button.
  • Step 2: You must enter your communication address, mother's name, father's name, educational qualification, and exam details.
  • Step 3: You must click the 'Save' button and cross-check the entered details. After confirmation, you must click the 'Confirm' button to submit.
  • Step 4: You should upload the documents- Passport size colour photograph and a scanned copy of your signature along with their class 10 and class 12 mark sheet. After uploading, you should click on the 'Submit' button.
  • Step 5: You need to pay the UCEED application form fee 2026 to complete the registration.
  • Step 6: Next, you must take a printout of the application form for future reference.

UCEED Eligibility Criteria

The ones who want to appear for the UCEED 2026 exam must satisfy all the eligibility criteria as specified. Those not meeting the requirements will not be allowed to proceed with the further rounds of examination.

The exam authority also has the right to cancel your candidature for the ongoing session. Only the ones who satisfy UCEED Eligibility Criteria 2026 can apply for the exam. The UCEED eligibility criteria 2026 are tabulated below.

Nationality of Candidates Both Indians and foreign nationals can appear for the exam. Candidates who are not citizens of India (by birth or naturalization) and whose parents are not citizens of India and do not come under PIO/ OCI category at the time of registering, will be considered foreign nationals.

UCEED Exam Pattern

UCEED 2026 exam is a computer-based online examination in English. The exam mainly consists of 3 sections for a total of 300 marks namely:

  • Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions
  • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)
  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)

Part A: Part A of the UCEED exam 2026 will consist of three sections, i.e., Section I, II, & III, with Total Marks of 240 with a Time Duration of 2 hours 30 mins. It will be administered through a Computer-based test. The three sections of Part A of the UCEED Exam have been listed below.

Part B: Part B consists of just 1 question to test your drawing skills. The question will be displayed on the computer screen, and the answer has to be written/ drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator. You must complete Part B in 30 minutes, and a total of 60 marks can be secured.

UCEED Syllabus

You can download the revised syllabus for the UCEED 2026 exam from the official website. IIT Bombay announced that a new UCEED exam course syllabus and test pattern will be used in 2026.

The UCEED entrance exam pattern will be divided into two parts, according to the revised UCEED exam pattern: Part A and Part B. Part A will be computer-based, but Part B will have questions displayed on the screen. Still, answers must be written/drawn on the answer booklet provided at the exam hall. In the new format, the Part B exam will last 60 minutes.

UCEED Exam Timings

UCEED exam 2026 will be held on January 18, 2026 (Sunday). The exam will be held from 09:00 am to 12:00 noon. You are required to be seated at least 30 minutes before the start time, that is, by 8:30 AM, to complete all the formalities.

The exam is held in two parts parts A and B part A is computer-based and should be completed within one hour. Part B requires drawing on paper to assess candidates, aptitude, creativity, visual perception and logical thinking and thus the candidate needs to finish it in two hours. 

You must reach the UCEED exam centre 2026 before the reporting time. Arriving late may result in disqualification and you may not be allowed to enter the examination hall. You must ensure to carry all the documents needed to avoid any unnecessary hustle at the time of entry.

UCEED Exam Day Guidelines

  • You must carry a printed copy of the downloaded UCEED Admit Card 2026. Only those of you having a valid admit card will be allowed inside the examination centre.
  • Invigilators and the IIT representatives will verify your identity. If your identity is in doubt, you may not be allowed to appear for the examination. However, at your discretion, the authorities may permit you to appear for the examination after completing certain formalities. No extra time will be allowed for completing the examination instead of the time taken for completing these formalities
  • Impersonation in the UCEED examination is a serious offence that will thereby result in immediate disqualification of you from UCEED, and lead to a criminal proceeding against you.
  • You will NOT be allowed to carry any electronic device (mobile phones, smartphones, digital/ smart watches, calculators, tablets, etc.), abacus, slide rule, logbooks, study material of any type, geometry box, etc. to the Examination Hall. A list of forbidden items will be put up on the website before the exam if there are additional items.
  • You have to remain in the examination hall for the entire duration of the exam.

UCEED Exam Centres

UCEED Exam #yer will be held in 27 cities across India and will also conducted overseas, in Dubai. You have to select three cities across India in your order of preference while filling out the application form. But you are allotted only one out of the selected alternatives.

UCEED Admit Card

UCEED exam admit card 2026 will be released on the official website in January 2026 at 01:00 pm by the exam authorities. You must carefully check the details on it to avoid any last-minute candidature.

UCEED Rank List

UCEED Rank List 2026 will be prepared based on the total marks. The ones who score the minimum prescribed marks in each section and the minimum total marks will be included in the Rank List. The UCEED marks vs rank 2026 details will be released as soon as the exam is conducted.

If two candidates have scored the same total marks, a tiebreaker policy will be used to award the rank. The policy used is stated below:

  • The one who has scored the highest marks in Section B will be awarded a higher rank
  • If the previous policy does not break the tie, Section A marks will be considered
  • If there exists a tie even after that, you will be awarded the same rank

UCEED Seat Allotment

The seats are allotted based on your UCEED rank, category, and choice of institutes. Selected ones will receive your provisional allotment letter via registered email ID. You have to pay the seat acceptance fee of INR 60,000 for General/ OBC/ EWS and INR 15,000 for the other reserved categories.

The seat allocation is based on the following rules that the conducting authority sets.

  • If the selected candidates do not pay the seat acceptance fee before the given date or have declined admission, their UCEED 2026 application will be cancelled. The conducting body shall fill these vacant seats during the subsequent UCEED 2026 seat allotment rounds.
  • If the candidate is allotted the first choice of their desired institute, they can either accept (freeze) the choice or decline the seat offer.
  • If the candidate is allotted the second or third choice of their desired institute, they can either accept (freeze) the choice or accept the option to be considered for upward movement (Float).
  • You only have the option to withdraw an allotted seat after the last round of seat allocation has been published by the IIT Bombay.

Admissions are offered for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs at IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, IIITDM Jabalpur, and other participating institutes.

Q: What does UCEED 2026 stand for?

UCEED stands for Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design. It is a national level entrance exam offering admissions to B.Des. courses in various IITs and other participating institutes like Amity University Noida, Apeejay Stya University, National Institute of Fashion Technology, K. R. Mangalam University, GD Goenka University, Lovely Professional University. 

Q: Does the UCEED exam evaluation follow a negative marking scheme?

A:

Yes, there is a negative marking scheme in UCEED exam 2025. The marking scheme has been updated for the UCEED exam pattern 2025. (-1) will be deducted for every incorrect answer. Zero marks will be awarded for unanswered questions. +2 will be given for two correct options out of three or more and +1 for choosing one correct answer out of multiple correct choices. Students are advised to complete entire part A and B within three hours. Negative marking only applies to MSQ in UCEED 2025.

Q: I appeared for UCEED last year and did not join any course after that. Am I eligible to attempt UCEED 2026?

Yes, you can attempt the UCEED examination only twice in 2 consecutive years. However, the previous scores obtained in the examination are valid only throughout the corresponding academic year only. You need to re-appear for the exam and score well to seek admissions to the desired colleges as per their cutoff marks.

The UCEED 2025 exam was scheduled to be held on January 19, 2025. Registration for the exam began on October 1, 2024. Aspiring candidates who want to seek admission into B.Des. colleges in India can apply for the UCEED exam 2025. Some of the participating colleges include IITs, Amity University, Noida, Pearl Academy, etc.

Q: How many attempts are there in UCEED Exam 2025?

A candidate can take a maximum of two attempts in the UCEED Exam 2025. One must also note that the two attempts must be taken in consecutive years. The candidate must have passed all the subjects in the qualifying exam or must be in appearing for the subjects in 2025.
