Manipal Institute of Technology Overview

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal was established in the year 1957 as one of the first pioneering self-financing engineering colleges in the country. In the year 2000, it became a constituent institute of the Deemed University Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). With a total student intake of about 2500 per year, and around 10,000 students, 675 faculty members, over 1100 support staff, over 55000 alumni, the Institute provides the right ambience and platform for the holistic development of students. MIT Manipal is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council [NAAC] and is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education [AICTE]. 

MIT has 18 undergraduate programs, 31 Masters Programs, and Doctoral programs in all streams of engineering and science under 18 different departments. The institute undertakes sponsored research programs supported by funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, AICTE and the Ministry of Environmental Sciences. It has collaborative research programs in association with premier research laboratories and institutes in India and abroad. Further, the culture of incubation and entrepreneurship are nurtured at the institute with facilities such as Manipal University Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) and Central Instrumentation Facility.   • Spread over 180 acres Manipal Institute of Technology is one of the most prestigious engineering college in India. MIT offers a wide variety of courses some of which including printing technology and biomedical are offered by very few institutes in India,learning is facilitated by use projectors and state of art BOSCH speakers which provide a unique and innovative learning to the students.
  • The year is divided into two semesters and each semester follows 2 sessionals(internal exams) followed by end semester exams.The faculty is one of the best in the country and is willing to help students all the time though some of them can give you a hard time.The college regularly conducts multiple events and seminars which provide students a chance to hone their technical and personal skills.

  • Usually we'll be having half day class. If we have lab then we'll be having full day class. We have 2 sessional exams which carries 15 marks each, 5 assignments each carrying 4 marks and end semester exam which is out of 50 marks.
  • Method of teaching-Quality of teaching is good, they'll tell us which book to refer, they explain everything.
  • Overall experience is excellent. We get to know many things. We can join in any clubs.

The placement cell of the Institute provides some internship opportunities from semester to semester however most of these are available during summers itself, owing to the giant 2-month break. However, these opportunities are few and limited to certain domain areas like coding and software development.

As far as placements are concerned, the season begins in the 7th semester wherein the recruiting companies begin with their processes. The salary figures begin from 5 LPA and are seen as towering as much as 20 LPA if not more to the select prodigies.

I have done 2 internships personally, but none of them has been through college. However, it gave me a slight edge as i was from MIT when i was hired for internships. There was no stipend for both of them. I got an offer through campus placements but i rejected it later. It was a 6-month internship from ClearTax and they were offering 15,000 rupees plus additional benefits (5000 rupees).

There are lots of big companies that come to our campus. Amazon, Deloitte, Tata, Fiat, Bosch, Hyundai Mobis, Ather Energy, Accenture, TCS, Royal Enfield, HP, P&G etc. Most of these companies hired for marketing and sales roles, however, core companies came for tech-specific roles.

However, it finally depends on the branch you're in. Like since i was in Automobile, companies like Tata and Fiat made us not eligible but they allowed Mechanical students for their selection process.
