Introduction to TOEFL Exam 2019:

  • About: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a test conducted to evaluate a candidate’s English language proficiency. TOEFL exam can be taken by people whose native language is not English and wish to pursue higher education in Foreign countries.

  • Conducting Authority: It is administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) – a US-based non-profit organization. 

  • TOEFL exam is recognized by more than 9,000 colleges, universities and organizations and other TOEFL participating institutes across 130 countries, including Australia, Canada, the UK and the United States.

  • Frequency: TOEFL is conducted more than 50 times a year at 4500 test centres in 165 countries worldwide. But candidates can sit for the exam maximum 5 times a year by choosing their preference of TOEFL exam dates. 

  • Validity: Scorecard of TOEFL remains valid for 2 years from the TOEFL exam date.

  • Attempts: There is no limit to the number of times one can take the test, but one can retake the test after 12 days from the previous test date. If there is already booked test then you cannot register for one more test within 12 days of the already booked test. The test fee is same every new registration.

  • Duration: The TOEFL test time may vary from 3 Hours and 20 Minutes to 4 Hours and 10 Minutes (including 10 Minutes break in between).

  • Eligibility: ETS has not prescribed any eligibility criteria to take TOEFL. As the difficulty of the test is of high school or Indian 10+2 level it is expected to have passed the same.

  • Also, students should note that their desired university may have specific eligibility criteria to apply for the courses.

  • TOEFL Exam Pattern: The TOEFL exam pattern is Descriptive type with no negative marking. The TOEFL exam is conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Service) 50 times a year, at multiple centres, in online mode. 

  • TOEFL Score Range: The score ranges from 0 to 120 and this is the cumulative score of all 4 sections with a range of 0 to 30.

TOEFL 2019 Important Dates:

  • TOEFL ETS allows students to choose the Exam Date according to their convenience, throughout the year. 

  • TOEFL ETS even provides the options to the students to reschedule the exam once scheduled based on their choice.

  • If the student wants to cancel the scheduled exam, TOEFL ETS will refund 50% of the fee, considered being done at least four days prior to the exam.

TOEFL 2019 Exam Pattern:

  • The TOEFL tests a non-native English speaking candidate in 4 different aspects of English Language viz. his/her reading ability, listening and understanding, speaking proficiency and writing mastery.

  • To test his/her proficiency the TOEFL has been divided into 4 skill areas, with a separate score from 0 to 30, for each section.

TOEFL 2019 Registration Details:

  • To begin the process of TOEFL 2019 Registration one has to start with creating an account on the ETS TOEFL website at ets.org/toefl.

  • The predetermined universities and colleges to which the students want to send their TOEFL Score must be selected at this stage.

  • The registration fee of USD 180 can be paid via Credit Card, Debit Card, Paypal or Western Union Quick Pay.


TOEFL 2019 Exam Centres:

  • The TOEFL only conducts online tests in India. There are nearly 40 test cities in India where TOEFL is conducted.
