It is an ideal course for aspirants who have completed Bachelor of Arts Degree from a recognized University. But BA is not a mandatory criterion for applying to MA.
Candidates with an undergraduate degree can apply for the same. The general cutoff of 50%.
There are some entrance exams conducted by the colleges or universities for getting admission to MA, Then candidates are going to have a personal interview.
After clearing these criteria successfully, the candidate can get admission to the respective university or college.
Most of the institutes shortlisted students for the course depending on their performance in a relevant entrance test.
Some institutes operate their own entrance tests for admission.
Admission process will differ from college to college. Few institutions in the country also offer admission on the basis of the candidate’s merit scores at the level of graduation.

Admission is based on merit and sometimes the entrance exam. I didn't take any exams. Above 50%
Admission to Presidency University is done through their entrance exams, viz. PUBDET (for the Bachelor's courses) and PUMDET (for the Master's courses), that is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (WBJEE) Board.
Eligibility depends on whether or not the percentage of marks of one's last highest degree (Class XII board exams or Bachelor's degree) meets with the minimum marks required to apply to the course they want to pursue. Even if the marks of one's last highest degree is yet to be published, they can still appear for the entrance exam. However, the entrance exam scores will only be valid if the eligibility criteria are fulfilled later.
The general cutoff for a Master's course (when I had applied back in 2018) was 55%. Reservation for SC/ST candidates was according to the State guidelines.

For admission in MA psychology, there is no entrance exam. But admissions were merit-based. However, it is mandatory for students to have psychology in Bachelors's. Cutoff of merit varies every year.
