The Newman Theological College (NTC) was founded in 1969 by the Act of the Alberta Legislature. It was initially set up as a theological faculty at the Oblate Immaculate Conception Scholasticate in St. Joachim’s Parish, Edmonton in 1917. NTC is sensitive to diversity and has students and professors from other Christian churches and also offers courses in some of these traditions. NTC also respects and supports diversity within the Eastern and Western Catholic communities.

The education mission at NTC is to prepare students to assume the roles of Christian leadership and services within Churches throughout the world. The college offers educational programs in the Degree programs (Bachelor of Theology, Degree in Catholic Studies (BA in Catholic studies), Preparatory certifications (Faith Formation).
