What is Preferential Admission?

It is a selective admission process that involves a structured format to evaluate all applicants according to the admission requirements established for the program. Applicants are ranked based on the degree to which they have met the admission requirements. If there are two or more applicants with the same numeric rank, the date of application will be used.

When will I receive an acceptance letter from Douglas College?

Douglas College usually takes 3-4 weeks to send acceptance letters. The admissions officer will provide you with a written outline of all admission requirements for the chosen program. Once you meet these requirements, your application will be ranked against the applications of other eligible candidates. The selected students will receive a seat offer from Douglas College.

Does Douglas College provide a conditional offer letter?

A seat offer implies acceptance into the program on a conditional basis. After an offer has been made, some programs require a medical, criminal background check, and a $350 non-refundable, nontransferrable deposit. Upon meeting these final requirements, the applicant will be fully accepted into the program.

What if I do not get admitted this year? Will I have to reapply?

If you have met all the admission requirements for limited enrolment programs, but there is no seat available, you need to reapply to be considered for the next intake. Once the admission process is completed and the program is full, you will receive written notification from the college.

I received a letter from Douglas College that says I am in the program. Why do I still have to provide any documents and/or do testing?

The first letter that you received was an acknowledgement letter. It indicates that your application has been forwarded to the admissions office for processing. The second letter, which you received, contained information about the application requirements for the course to which you applied. For programs with limited enrollment, there are specific admission requirements that must be met before you can be admitted. To find details about individual programs, students must refer to the Douglas College Catalog.
