An international freshman is a student who is presently enrolled or has recently graduated from high school or secondary school in the United States or another country. A minimum paper-based test score of 550, a computer-based test score of 213, or an Internet-based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language score of 79-80. Based on your high school grades, you must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 (on a scale of 4.00 in the United States). The steps and prerequisites are as follows:

  • Scores on standardized tests: For undergraduates, the SAT and ACT are recommended. GRE/GMAT scores are required for graduate programs
  • Official transcripts from high school and/or college. For undergraduates, a minimum GPA of 2.0 is required on a scale of 4.0, while for graduates, a minimum GPA of 2.7 is necessary
  • Test of English Language Proficiency
  • Two letters of recommendation from instructors and counselors are required, as well as a personal essay
  • Statement of Purpose, Financial Support Documents, Copy of Passport ID Pages
  • If they require need-based scholarships/grants, students must additionally complete the Scholarship Profile at the time of admission

Youngstown State University Application Deadlines

Youngstown State University accepts applications for a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses twice a year, in the Fall and Spring semesters. Even if there is a Summer semester, it is not available to international students who wish to study in the United States. On a rolling basis, they are admitted to only two semesters per year.
