The IMC's courses consist of a 24-week core of instruction on the scientific principles that underpin medical practice, followed by six organ-based blocks and a syndromes-based course, all of which integrate traditional basic science disciplines (anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, and immunology) for each of the human body's major systems.
All courses are interdisciplinary and built around self-directed, problem-based learning, with large-group lectures and laboratory sessions thrown in for good measure. The Practice of Medicine course emphasizes the development of clinical skills and clinical thinking.
