Millsaps College is a private, liberal arts school with an urban campus in the heart of Jackson. It was established by Baptist and Methodist churches in 1890 to provide higher education for their children from meagre backgrounds who could not afford it otherwise.
Millsaps was founded in 1890 by a Presbyterian minister, Josiah Morse Millsaps, and named after his late son Miller.
