Greenville University (GU) was instituted in 1892 in the town of Greenville, Illinois by the Free Methodist Church. It was founded with the purpose of training young men and women and was reincorporated as a private institution in 1893. Since that time Greenville has evolved and broadened its educational offerings. It has an overall undergraduate enrollment of 913, its background is rural, and the campus size is 50 acres.
