California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) is an institution of higher education that celebrates diversity and fosters long-term success. California State University, Sacramento which was earlier known as Sacramento State College was founded in 1947, but not at its current location. Sacramento State College was originally housed on the grounds of Sacramento City College (then named Sacramento Junior College). Construction on CSUS began in May 1951 on what was a combination of hop fields and peach orchards.
