To pass the UP Board 12th board examinations, students must score at least 33% marks. The total for each subject is 100, out of which a student needs to achieve 33 marks to pass.
The criteria of the UP Board 12th passing marks are the same for the aggregate percentage or total. The theory exams are usually conducted for a total of 70 marks, and the remaining 30 marks are for practical exams. For non-practical subjects like language papers, the theory exams are conducted for a total of 100 marks.
The UP board also follows a grading system based on the performance of the students. The highest grade is A1 for theory papers, and for practical exams, the highest grade is A. Students need to score a minimum D grade to pass the theory exam. On the other hand, students need to score a minimum E grade to pass the practical exam.
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Parishad is responsible for the conduct of the UP Board 12th exams. The exams are usually held from mid-February to mid-March. There are two shifts for the examination. The board result is released approximately a month after the conduct of the examination in an online mode on the official website.

As discussed above, students need to score 33% marks in both the theory as well as the practical examination to pass the board exams. The examinations for non-practical subjects are conducted for 100 marks, while for some, it is conducted for a total of 70 marks.

Again, to be considered as passed in the practical examination, a student needs to score 33% marks. In cases where a student is not able to fulfil the criteria for passing the exam, he/she will not be given the passing certificate and will be considered a failure.

Students are awarded the passing certificate only if they fulfil the minimum passing criteria for both theory and practical examinations. Students who fail at it will have to apply for the UP Board 12th compartment exams.

The UP board 12th grading system incorporates grades from A1 - E2. It is a 10-point grading system. From the grade range, A1 is awarded to the students who score between 90 to 100 marks, and E2 is given to the students who score below 21 marks. A minimum D grade, i.e, 33 marks, is required to pass the exam.
Students scoring below 33 marks are considered to have failed. The grading system is similar for all the subjects. For practicals, it is different; A grade is given to the students who score above 80% marks.
Grade points are given according to the marks scored by the students. Students scoring between 91- 100 are given 10 Grade Points, students scoring 81-90 are given 9 grade points, and so on…the students scoring between 33-40 are given 4 grade points. Students scoring less than 21 marks are not given any grade points.
The formula for the calculation of CGPA is the sum of the grade points obtained in the subject/number of subjects.
