The grading system for the Tamil Nadu 10th board exam was decided by the Directorate of Government Examination (DGE), Tamil Nadu. In this grading system, there are eight grades in total, ranging from A1 to E, where A1 is the highest grade and E is the lowest grade. These grades are allotted according to the total marks received by the student. The marks range for the grades vary for the language subjects and the non-language subjects. Along with the grades, the students are also given grade points for the Tamil Nadu Class 10 Exam 2026. Different grades have different grade points, and students who receive an E grade do not get any grade points. Thus, the students getting an E grade are considered failed.

To pass the Tamil Nadu 10th board exams, a student must attain a minimum of 35% in all subjects, including both compulsory subjects and optional subjects. The total marks are calculated by adding the theory marks, practical marks, and internal assessment marks. The subject-wise division of the passing marks is listed in the following table:

If the students are not satisfied with their marks, after the results are out, they can apply for the revaluation of their answer sheets. For revaluation, the students need to fill out the revaluation form, which will be out on the official website dge.tn.gov.in, as soon as the results are out. The students will have to pay an amount of Rs. 505 in order to apply for revaluation. After a few days, the result of the rechecked copies will be out. The marks may increase, decrease, or even stay the same. This result will be final, and the students cannot apply again for revaluation.
If any student does not get passing marks in one or more subjects, he/she can sit for the compartment exams. The application forms for the compartment exams will be released on the official website of the Directorate of Government Examination (DGE) after the results are declared. The TN 10th Supplementary Exam 2026 will be conducted in June 202,6, and the results of these exams will be declared in July 2026. The passing marks for the compartment exams are also 35%. The students need to attain a minimum of 35% in all the failed subjects to pass the 10th boards. The result of the compartment exams will be final, and if a student fails to achieve passing marks in the compartment exam, he/she will also have to repeat the class in the following academic year.
