The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has set a minimum mark limit in every subject for passing the exam. Students are required to achieve a minimum of 33% marks in the JAC board class 10 examination. The theory marks are a total of 80 marks, out of which a minimum of 26 marks is required to pass the exam. The practical examination or internal assessment is 20 marks, out of which 7 marks are the minimum required. However, the total marks for each subject may vary.
In the case of some subjects for the class 12 examination, the total marks are 70. Besides the theory examination, practical and internal assessment marks are divided into 20 or 30 marks. Students are therefore required to keep an eye on the syllabus and prepare accordingly.

The marks distribution is as discussed for the 10th board exam. There are five subjects - English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. All these papers account for a total of 100 marks each. Theory marks are conducted for a total of 80 marks, out of which students need to score a minimum of 26 marks, and the remaining 20 marks are for practical/internal assessment, out of which, minimum of 7 marks are required.
The board exams of class 10 are usually finished by mid-March. The revaluation process for the same begins by the end of March. As soon as they finish with the evaluation, they begin with the preparation of the results.
Students are required to score 33% marks separately in the theory exam as well as the practical exam/ internal assessment. Also, a student needs to score 33% in the aggregate of all 5 subjects to pass the exam. Subjects in 10 board exams are Language 1, Language 2, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. All these papers are conducted for a total of 80 marks, the theory being that is; out which they need to score 33 in each subject.
The science subject is practical, and therefore, a student is required to appear for a 20-mark practical exam, out of which he/she has to score 33 percent.

The JAC board grading system consists of 4 divisions. Students scoring more than 75% marks are awarded the highest division - distinction division. The overall division achieved by the students in the board exam is reflected in the JAC board 10th exams result. The marks and grades are listed subject-wise, both for the theory as well as practical examination.
Students with distinction division are considered toppers, and the list for the same is declared as soon as the result is announced. Students may collect their original mark sheets from their respective schools once the result is declared.
