The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) evaluates students' scores based on a 10-scale grading system, ranging from A1 to E2. A1 is the highest grade and represents the highest scores, whereas E2 is the lowest. The minimum grade to pass the HPBOSE class 10 exam is D. Students who fail to obtain the required passing marks can appear for the HPBOSE 10th compartment exam.
Students appearing for the HPBOSE 10th exam must be aware of the HPBOSE 10th grading system so that they can plan their preparation accordingly. Students are awarded grades in both the theory and internal assessment sections of the HPBOSE 10th exam. In both the sections, theory and practical/internal assessments, students have to secure passing grades to be declared as passed in that subject.

Just like in the HPBOSE 10th grading system, students secure passing grades; they are also required to secure passing marks. Marks are awarded to students in different subjects, with each subject carrying a total of 100 marks, out of which certain marks are for the theory exam, and the remaining marks are for practical or internal assessments.
HPBOSE 10th passing marks in English, Hindi, and SST are 26 out of 80 maximum marks. In Mathematics, the passing mark is 26 out of 85 maximum marks. The passing mark in Science and Technology is 19 out of 60 maximum marks. Below is a table showing the maximum and passing marks of all the subjects.

The passing marks in the HPBOSE 10th practical exam are 6 for subjects like English, Hindi, and SST, which have 20 maximum marks. For other subjects, students can check the table shown below.

Students are allowed to get their answer sheets re-evaluated if they are not satisfied with their marks or grades under the HPBOSE 10th grading system. For that, they have to fill out a separate form with a required fee of Rs. 500 per subject.
Students who are sure that their answer sheets need re-evaluation are eligible to apply for the re-evaluation process. The increase or decrease in marks or grades will be mentioned in the mark sheet in the form of revised marks.
The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education allows students to appear for a supplementary exam, which is conducted for students who have secured less than passing marks in one or two subjects. The supplementary exam requires a separate registration process that appearing students have to complete. The fee required to complete the registration process is Rs. 2000.
On the day of the supplementary exam, students have to carry their admit card to get entry in the examination hall. The HPBOSE 10th supplementary exam result 2026 will be declared tentatively in August 2026. Updates regarding the admit card and result will be posted on the official website of HPBOSE. The HPBOSE 10th supplementary date sheet will also be uploaded on the official website once the board decides on which dates the exams are to be held.
The total number of questions varies with the subject and ranges between 17 to 30. The question paper is divided into various sections, A, B, C, and so on. Students can check the HPBOSE 10th exam pattern in the table shown below.

Along with five compulsory subjects, students have the option to select one elective subject. In the HPBOSE 10th exam, the elective subjects included are Urdu, Sanskrit, Art, Home Science, Tamil, Punjabi, Telegu, Computer Science, Music (Vocal), Music (Instrumental), Agriculture, and Commerce. Students can select any one elective subject from the mentioned ones.
