NBSE HSSLC Passing Marks: Check NBSE HSSLC Passing Maximum and Minimum Marks

Students taking the NBSE HSSLC exams must secure 33% passing marks in each subject, covering both theory and practical components separately. Those who don't meet these requirements can appear for compartment exams, unless they fail in more than two subjects, in which case they must repeat the class. Passing marks vary based on the maximum marks for theory and practical exams, and students must also achieve specific aggregate scores and grades to pass overall.

NBSE HSSLC passing marks are 33% in all the subjects, considering theory and internal assessments/practical exams. Students have to secure passing marks in every subject of the NBSE HSSLC Board exam. Students who fail to obtain the required passing marks can appear for the NBSE HSSLC compartment exam. As the passing marks are separate for theory and practical exams, students have to secure passing marks for both exams separately.

NBSE HSSLC passing marks in theory and practical or internal assessments are the same for most of the subjects and different for a few subjects. Those students who fail to secure passing marks in more than two subjects are not eligible for compartment exams. They have to repeat the same class.

NBSE HSSLC Passing Marks 2026

The NBSE HSSLC passing marks are different for the theory and practical exams. Students have to secure passing marks in both exams.  

NBSE HSSLC Passing Marks in Theory Exam

In NBSE HSSLC, the theory exams are conducted maximum of 80 or 70 marks. The passing marks out of 80 marks are 27, and out of 70 maximum marks, the passing marks are 21. The NBSE HSSLC passing marks in theory exams for all the subjects are mentioned in the table.

NBSE HSSLC Passing Marks in Practical/Internal Assessment

The practical or internal assessments in NBSE HSSLC are conducted of 20 and 30 marks, out of which 6 and 12 are passing marks respectively. The table shown below represents the NBSE HSSLC passing marks in practical or internal assessments of each subject.

NBSE HSSLC Passing Marks: Division Classification

Based on the total marks students have obtained, their result is classified into a division. Including all the subjects, the HSSLC exam is conducted of aggregate 500 marks, and the marks mentioned below in the table are the range of marks considered to assign the division to students. Below 165 marks, no division is allotted, and the student is considered not qualified to be promoted to the next class. Check out the table below for more details.

NBSE HSSLC Passing Marks: Grading System

In the NBSE HSSLC exam, the grades are also awarded in each subject and internal assessments/projects along with marks. The grades are awarded to represent the performance of candidates. Students can check the NBSE HSSLC grading system in the tables below.

NBSE HSSLC Grading System for Theory Exams

Based on marks students have received on different subjects, the grades and remarks are given to them. A1 is the highest grade awarded if the student has secured marks between 91 and 100. E1 and E2 are the lowest grades awarded to students based on their marks. The passing grade is D, below which if students receive any grade, they have to re-appear for that exam again.

NBSE HSSLC Passing Marks: Pass Criteria

NBSE HSSLC has certain passing criteria that every student must be aware of. Such important pass criteria are mentioned below.

  • Out of 100 total marks, including theory and practical, 33 marks are the passing marks.
  • Subjects for which theory exam is conducted of 90 marks and internal assessments/projects of 10 marks, 30 marks and 3 marks will be the passing marks, respectively.
  • The candidate must obtain 165 marks out of 500 marks to be considered passed.
  • A minimum of a D grade is required in all the internal assessments to be considered a pass.
  • Students are required to pass in at least five subjects to be promoted to the next class including all the compulsory subjects.

Scoring passing marks and above can be easy for students if they follow the points mentioned below

  • Students should complete their syllabus thoroughly. 
  • Each topic should be revised twice or thrice. 
  • Students should also complete the previous years' question papers and sample papers. This will help them understand the important topics and their weightage.
  • Make notes of important formulas, concepts, and definitions if required.
  • Try to make daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
