Tamil Nadu 12th board follows a 10-point scale grading system, and the grades are awarded on a scale of A1 to E1. Students scoring between 91-100 will be given an A1 grade and a grade of 10. The lowest grade is E1 for marks scored between 21 to 34, considered not qualified or failed.

The Directorate of General Education, Tamil Nadu (TNDGE) has designed the following grading system for the Tamil Nadu 12th board examination. Students are awarded grades based on the following pattern:

How to Calculate Percentage from Class 12th Grades?

Tamil Nadu class 12th grade percentage can be calculated using the following methods:

  • Add the marks of all the subjects you scored in the final TN 12th exam.
  • Divide the sum obtained by adding the marks of all the subjects by the total marks. 
  • Now multiply the product by 100 to get the percentage you scored on the board.

Tamil Nadu Class 12th Marking System 

Tamil Nadu 12th board follows the marking criteria framed by the DGE Tamil Nadu. An overview of the marking system has been provided below:

  • The question paper of the Tamil Nadu 12th board has four sections consisting of MCQs, short and long answer type questions.
  • Section A of the question paper has 15 MCQs, each carrying 1 mark with no negative marking.
  • Section B consists of 12 questions of 2 marks each. Her,e students need to answer very short answer-type questions. 
  • Section C has 6 questions in total, and each question carries 3 marks. Students will be asked to answer short-answer-type questions.
  • Section D consists of long-answer type questions and students need to attempt 5 questions, each carrying 5 marks.

Tamil Nadu Class 12th Passing Marks

Students must score at least 35 marks in each subject to clear the TN 12th exam 2026. The theory paper has 70 marks for subjects with ppracticalscals and the practical test is allotted 20 marks. The remaining 10 marks are for internal assessment. The passing marks for each subject, including vocational, are given below:
