Latest Update:

  • November 7, 2020: The seat allotment for JoSAA 2020 Round-6 is announced. This will be the final seat allotment through JoSAA for the year 2020.
  • November 3, 2020: JoSAA 2020 Round-5 Seat Allotment List was announced after 8:00 PM today. Candidates can report online for further process.
  • October 30, 2020: JoSAA 2020 Round-4 Seat Allotment List is announced.
  • October 26, 2020: JoSAA 2020 Round-3 Seat Allotment List is announced.
  • October 21, 2020: JoSAA 2020 Round-2 Seat Allocation Results are announced.
  • October 17, 2020: The Round-1 Seat Allocation Results for JoSAA 2020 are declared. Candidates can log in with their JEE Main or JEE Advanced credentials to check the same.

JoSAA 2020 Counselling

The JoSAA 2020 counselling and seat allocation process is conducted for candidates to get admissions in 31 NITs, 23 IITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 other GFTIs. This platform was created to make sure that no seats are left vacant by the end of the counselling process. Candidates who have written JEE Mains or JEE Advanced will be allowed to take part in the JoSAA 2020 seat allotment process.

The JoSAA 2020 Seat Allotment Process has started on October 6, 2020. The detailed seat allotment schedule is as mentioned in the table below. These dates are however subject to changes based on the circumstances at that time.

JoSAA Counseling 2020 - Partition of Candidates

JoSAA Counselling Documents Required 2020

The counselling process conducted by JoSAA is quite tedious and requires the availability of a lot of official government documents at your disposal. It is always better to have all the required documents along with you during the registration and verification process. JoSAA Counselling Mock Seat Allotment 2020

JoSAA 2020 will release the mock seat allotment process for the students. It will be done to give the students an idea of how the actual counseling process will look like. Mock seat allotment for JoSAA 2020 will be released before the actual seat allotment. This will help candidates book their choice of seats in the desired participating institute. JoSAA 2020 Counselling will conduct two JoSAA 2020 mock seat allotments. If the colleges and courses allotted during mock allotment are not satisfactory, then the candidates can accordingly modify their order preference. Since the allotment is not final, candidates will be given enough time to change their preferences. 

NOTE: The results of both allotment rounds will be announced online.

JoSAA Counselling Final Seat Allotment 2020

After two rounds of mock seat allotment. The final seat allotment of JoSAA 2020 will be held in 7 rounds. After mock allotment, candidates will be given an ample amount to change their preferences if they wish to. The seat allotment is done based on the JEE Main/JEE Advanced 2020 rank, the choices entered for the course and college, and the number of vacant seats in the institutes. After the deadline to submit the choices, the results will be announced. 

The provisional allotment letter which will be available on the official website should be downloaded by the candidates and the acceptance fee should be paid within the specified date. Post which candidates have to visit the Reporting Center (RC) for the document verification process. The JoSAA 2020 acceptance fee for candidates belonging to different categories is mentioned below.

Candidates can check for seat allotment results on the official website. The candidates will then have the options to:

  • Freeze: Can be used when the candidate is satisfied with an allotment and would like to take admission in the allocated institute or college.
  • Float: Can be used when the candidate would like to continue with the allotted seat but would also participate in the next round of counselling to get a better seat.
  • Slide: It is similar to float except for the candidate who wishes to explore better choices in the same institute.
  • Withdraw: Can be used when the candidate is dissatisfied with seat allotment and would like to leave the counselling process.

JoSAA Counselling Seat Allotment for IIT's 2020

The rules followed by the IIT's for the seat allotment of candidates belonging to certain categories are mentioned below.

For Defence Service [DS] Candidates

1. Dereservation of unfilled category seats 

Two seats will be allotted to the defense service candidates. The candidate must be in Common Rank List(CRL). Such candidates will be included in their birth category along with the DS category.

2. Foreign Candidates

Foreign candidates will be considered under the general category. They must fulfil all the eligibility criteria of the General category and they must be in the Common Rank List (CRL). Seats allocated to the foreign candidates will have the provision of being supernumerary. The number of supernumerary seats will be 10% of the total number of seats available. Foreign candidates will not be considered for admissions into NIT's, IIIT's, IIEST, and other GFTI's through JoSAA counselling.

  • 2nd Round of Seat Allotment- 04th July 2020

  • 3rd Round of Seat allocation- 7th July 2020

  • 4th Round of Seat allocation for various preparatory courses (IITs and ISM) and seat allocation  (nits, IITs and other GFTIs)-  July 2020

The candidates will be allowed to reshuffle/reorder their choices only during the choice filling period before they “lock” their choices.
