The admission procedure for selection of candidates for the Bachelor Degree Courses in Engineering/Technology at the National Institute of Technology Durgapur and in other NITs are on the basis of State Rank/ All India Rank (AIR) of AIEEE. The National Institute of Technology, [NIT] Durgapur infrastructure has a 187 acres campus with facilities like central library, laboratories, research centres, guest house, hostel facility, canteen, medical facility, sports facility, bank and post office facility and more.

  • The Institute spreads over an area of 187 acres of land. It is fully residential and co-educational. It has state-of-the-art classrooms with audiovisual arrangement
  • The Institute houses a Students’Activity Centre (SAC) for indoor games like table tennis and chess. The campus also areas for gymnasiums, playgrounds for cricket, football and
  • hockey, athletic track and a basketball, badminton and tennis courts, the Student Activity Centre gives the students a chance to pursue their sport of interest and improve at it.

NIT DGP Placements:

The Placement Office is assisted by a committee comprising of representatives of students from the under-graduate and post-graduate streams.

Normally the placements in the commence are in the beginning of the final year (Seventh Semester) i.e. in the month of July. Prior to this, an invitation is sent to all previous recruiters in the month of May. Along with the invitation, a form is provided seeking the company profile & information ( CPI Form). After getting the willingness from the companies, the CPI Form will be displayed on the notice board. On the allotted day, the company visits the campus, makes pre-placement talk, conducts tests and interviews of the willing candidates and selects the best applicants.

Hostel Details

NIT DGP Hostel Details:

In NIT DGP, hostels are a big part of the campus facilities. More details about the hostels and its facilities are given below:

  • The institute has separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls.
  • Currently, it has around 2500 boys and 500 girls residing in seven boys' hostels and two girls' hostels.
  • Each hall is self-contained with amenities, such as a common room, a lounge (with facilities like TV, indoor games etc.) and a dining hall with a Mess. Also, every room has a LAN connection/ WIFI Router.
  • There is a special centralized veg Mess for all the vegetarian students in the college. Each hall has a Mess Committee consisting of students and wardens who lay down appropriate rules and norms for running the mess.
  • The cleanliness part is also taken care of with each block(wing) having a dustbin and washroom. Cleaners are employed to clean the toilets and the corridors every day.

Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech], batch of 2021

Daily routine at NIT Durgapur is pretty much flexible. The class timings are not fixed every day (though it is scheduled), which means someday there may be 4 classes in the routine, other day there can be 5 classes, with a maximum number of classes possible in a day is 8.

Projects and Assignments are given very often.

Exam routine is as follows:- One exam held at the middle of the semester which is named as mid-sem and the other takes place at the end of the semester which is named as end-sem.

Faculty is kind of mixed bag in NIT Durgapur. There is a combination of both great and worst teachers.


There are various student societies and clubs which makes a college life. Club activities add both fun activities and constructive activities. Various fests are organized by different clubs. 

The main and most popular fest is our cultural fest "RECSTACY" .Then comes our tech fest "AAROHAN".The other fests which take place in NIT Durgapur are AAVISHKAR, VERVE, MUKTI, etc.

Overall the college life at NIT Durgapur is up to the expectations. There is full freedom inside the campus, there is no time barrier restrictions regarding entering the hostels (both for boys and girls). Some of the canteens remain open till late at night.
