Unlike the heritage names of older IITs, these are named after celestial bodies, reflecting a forward-looking scientific spirit. IIT Ropar hostel fees typically range from INR 15,000 – INR 20,000 per semester (excluding mess charges).
Academic Facilities: The campus features state-of-the-art, GRIHA-rated sustainable department buildings, advanced interdisciplinary research centers, and high-tech laboratories. It includes smart classrooms, modern seminar halls, and a specialized Supercomputing facility that supports high-level computational research.
Main Library: The IIT Ropar Central Library is a highly digitized hub providing access to over 25,000+ books, numerous international journals, and extensive electronic databases. It serves as a modern repository for technical knowledge, offering 24/7 reading rooms and collaborative learning spaces.
Student Activity Centre (SAC): The SAC at IIT Ropar is the focal point of campus culture, housing offices for the Board of Science & Technology and the Board of Cultural Activities. It is the primary venue for organizing major annual events like Zeitgeist (Cultural Fest) and Advitiya (Tech Fest), fostering a close-knit community vibe.
Sports & Fitness: Students have access to comprehensive sporting facilities including a multi-purpose sports field, a well-equipped gymnasium, and dedicated courts for cricket, football, badminton, and tennis. The institute emphasizes physical well-being with professional coaching and inter-IIT sports meet preparation areas.

IIT Ropar Scholarships
Given below are some of the key IIT Ropar Scholarships: offered to support meritorious and financially needy students:
- Merit Cum Means (MCM) Scholarship: This is the primary internal support system, awarded to up to 25% of undergraduate students. Eligible students receive a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly pocket allowance of INR 1,000 for ten months per year. To qualify, students must maintain a minimum CGPA (usually 6.0 or higher) and have a family gross income not exceeding INR 4.5 lakhs per annum (though this limit is sometimes adjusted in line with government revisions).
- INSPIRE Scholarship: Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), this is specifically for students enrolled in Basic Science programs (such as B.Tech. in Engineering Physics or similar tracks). It offers INR 80,000 annually (INR 60,000 as a scholarship and INR 20,000 for summer research projects). Eligibility is restricted to those in the top 1% of their board exams or within the top 10,000 rank in JEE Advanced, provided they maintain a CGPA of at least 6.0.
- Institute Free Studentship: For students who may not meet the strict merit criteria for MCM but demonstrate significant financial need, the institute offers a "Free Studentship." This covers the tuition fee for the remaining 10% of the students (beyond the 25% covered by MCM). The income criteria are typically the same as the MCM scholarship, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder education.
- External and Government Scholarships: IIT Ropar acts as a facilitator for various state and central government schemes via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Key programs include:
-
Top Class Education for SC/ST students: Provides full tuition fee reimbursement, a living allowance, and a one-time grant for a laptop.
-
Post-Matric Scholarships: Offered by various state governments (such as Punjab, Rajasthan, and Bihar) for students belonging to minority or reserved categories.
- Donor and Alumni Scholarships: The institute benefits from the generosity of its growing alumni network and private donors. These awards, such as the Arati Dixit Memorial Scholarship or various "Class of" endowments, are often awarded based on a combination of specific criteria, including academic improvement, performance in specific departments, and financial hardship.
