IIIT Guwahati is an institute of national importance under an act of parliament. The institution offers various courses under postgraduate, undergraduate, and doctoral programs. The institute's vision is to be an Institute of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology and make innovation an integral part of the teaching process. The institution's mission is to create better leaders in ICT and also to make innovation an integral part of the teaching process.

IIIT Guwahati campus spreads across 67 acres of land which is 4 km away from Guwahati Airport. The hostels are located inside the campus and the campus is filled with various amenities also there are 48 flats exclusively for the faculty members. Besides the building campus is filled with lush greens and the campus also has other facilities like a treated water supply system, backup generators, and a decentralized sewage disposal system. The campus provides high-speed internet facilities with wi-fi throughout the campus.
