JoSAA stands for Joint Seat Allocation Authority. JoSAA was constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to manage the seat allocation for 114 institutions for the year 2023-24. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 33 other government-funded technical institutes. What is JoSAA counselling? It is responsible for seat allocation to candidates who qualify for JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2023 and wish to get admitted to IITs, NITs, GFTIs, or IIITs. JoSAA admissions to all the institutes are done smoothly, faster, and more effectively.
Some highlights of JoSAA 2023 are tabulated below:
|Full Form||Joint Seat Allocation Authority|
|Conducting Authority||MHRD or Ministry of Human Resources Development|
|Exam Duration||3 hours|
JoSAA meaning is to complete the admission process to all these institutes through a single platform.
|JEE Advanced 2023||IITs|
|JEE Main 2023 (B.E / B.Tech)||NITS, IIITs, IIEST, GFTIs|
|JEE Main 2023 ( B.Arch)|
|JEE Main 2023 (B.Planning)|
Choice of College
After enrollment, the candidates will have to submit their colleges and courses/ programs choices via the JoSAA candidate login. The candidates must choose the institutions and courses according to their liking, as they will be considered in the seat assignment session. The final allotment, however, is merit-based.
Dual Reporting in JoSAA 2023 Counselling
The candidate will have to report to the center twice under JoSAA 2023. It will only be applicable if the allotment has been upgraded at some rounds of counseling. If the candidates were first allocated a seat at the NITs and got upgraded to IITs or any other institute, then the candidates will have to report for IIITs and the NIT rounds.
In simple words, if a candidate's seat is changed from IIT to NIT+system and vice versa, they have to report at both of the reporting centers one after the other to make sure that their admission is confirmed. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the candidature of the applicant.
JoSAA 2023 Opening and Closing Rank
The opening and closing ranks will be announced after the seat allotment result. Candidates can check the previous year's JoSAA opening and closing rank to attain an idea about how the rank this year will be.
JoSAA 2023 Document Verification

JoSAA 2023 Eligibility
The qualification criteria of JoSAA 2023 must be met and fulfilled by the candidates for admission into the participating institutes. Although JoSAA 2023 has not set any particular qualification criteria, the basic requirement is that the candidates must have qualified for the JEE Main 2023 and JEE Advanced 2023 for registering and participating in the seat allotment. It is important for the candidates to keep in the mind the eligibility criteria of the institution to which they wish to apply to. For the architecture courses, candidates must know what is AAT in JoSAA? The Architecture Aptitude Test scores are required for registering under JoSAA 2023.
Candidates also need to have and produce correct documents in a valid JoSAA medical certificate format because the same will be verified by the conducting authorities. Hence, it becomes very important for the students to satisfy the JoSAA 2023 Eligibility in every way.
Note: If the candidate won't have any of the necessary documents unavailable with him/her, then he/she will not be considered for seat allocation and admission.

JoSAA 2023 Counselling
JoSAA 2023 seat matrix and participating institutes list is out on the official website. Candidates can download the file from the official website. The seat allocation and counselling for 31 NITs, 23 IITs, 26 IIITs, and 33 other GFTIs are conducted by JoSAA. The reason for introducing a single platform for the counselling process is to reduce the number of Engineering seats that go vacant in various institutions and also to fast-track the process and make it a lot smoother. After the registration process is completed, the counselling process starts.
JoSAA conducted the seat allotment in two formats, once as a mock allocation and the second as a final seat allocation. The mock seat allocation is done to let the candidates have an idea about the colleges that accept their scores in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. After the mock allotment, candidates will be allowed to make changes to their choices of colleges/courses via the JoSAA login. This process is held in two rounds so that the candidates can filter their college/course choice so that they can get the best one during the final seat allotment process.
The final seat allotment will be conducted in a total of 6 rounds for admission through JoSAA 2023. JoSAA 2023 counselling dates are as follows
