What is the JoSAA exam?
JoSAA stands for Joint Seat Allocation Authority. JoSAA was constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to manage the seat allocation for 111 institutions for the year 2021-22. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 30 other government-funded technical institutes. It is responsible for seat allocation to candidates who qualify JEE Main 2021 and JEE Advanced 2021 and wish to get admitted to IITs, NIT,s GFTIs or IITs. The aim of JoSAA is to complete the admission process to all these institutes through a single platform.

Choice of College
After enrollment, the candidates will have to submit their choices for colleges and courses/programs. The institutions and courses must be chosen by the candidates according to their liking as it will be considered in the seat assignment session. The final allotment, however, is merit-based.
Dual Reporting in JoSAA 2021 Counseling
This means the candidate will have to report to the center twice under JoSAA 2021. It will only be applicable if the allotment has been upgraded at some rounds of counseling. If the candidates were first allocated a seat at the NITs and it got upgraded to IITs or any other institute then the candidates will have to report for IITs as well as the NIT rounds.
In simple words, if the seat of a candidate is changed from IIT to NIT+system and vice versa, then he/she has to report at both of the reporting centers one after the other to make sure that his/her admission is confirmed. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the candidature of the applicant.
JoSAA 2021 Opening and Closing Rank
The opening and closing rank will be announced after seat allotment result. Candidates can check the previous year's JoSAA opening and closing rank to attain an idea about how the rank this year will be.
JoSAA 2021 Document Verification
After the result for the seat, distribution is declared, candidates should report to their nearest center for document verification. Only after verification and payment of seat acceptance fees, the applicants will have the capacity to visit their assigned college for confirmation of admission.

Participating Institutions
Candidates who are qualified for JEE Main 2021 and JEE Advanced 2021 will be eligible for admissions into 97 JoSAA 2021 participating institutes. More than 34,000 undergraduate engineering seats from the participating IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs are open to all JEE Main and JEE Advanced exam qualified candidates.
JoSAA 2021 Important Dates
JoSAA 2021 registration process for seat allocation starts after the result for JEE Advanced is declared. JoSAA 2021 seat allotment has been delayed this year as the exams also have been postponed. JoSAA 2021 Eligibility
The qualification criteria of JoSAA 2021 must be met and fulfilled by the candidates for admissions into the participating institutes. Although JoSAA 2021 has not set any particular qualification criteria, the basic requirement is that the candidates must have qualified the JEE Main 2021 and JEE Advanced 2021 for registering and participating in the seat allotment. It is important for the candidates to keep in the mind the eligibility criteria of the institution they wish to apply to. For the architecture courses, the Architecture Aptitude Test scores are required for registering under JoSAA 2021.
Candidates also need to have and produce correct documents because the same will be verified by the conducting authorities. Hence, it becomes very important for the students to satisfy the JoSAA 2021 Eligibility in every way.
Note: If the candidate won't have any of the necessary documents unavailable with him/her, then he/she will not be considered for seat allocation and admission.

JoSAA 2021 Participating Institutes
JoSAA 2021 comprises a total of 107 participating institutes and colleges. These institutes comprise of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Insitute of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government-Funded Technological Institutes (GFTIs). After JoSAA announces the seat allotment results, the candidates will have to report to the selected/allotted reporting centers mentioned below to confirm their allotted seats. JoSAA 2021 will have separate reporting centers for IIT's, NIT's and other institutes.

JoSAA 2021 Reporting Centers
- Candidates who have been allotted with seats will have to report at the assigned reporting center for the document verification process.
- All the original marks card and other necessary documents have to be produced at the time of verification.
- Those who do not provide original documents will not be permitted for the admission process.
- Candidates who have been allocated with institutes other than IIT's, NIT's and GFTI will have to report at the respective institute to confirm their admission. The remaining part of the semester fee should also be paid at the time of admission.

JoSAA 2021 Registration and Application Process
The following steps for registering for JoSAA 2021 can be followed.
Step 1 – JoSAA 2021 Registration
- Log into your JoSAA account, candidates will be required to submit their JEE Main 2021 roll number and password. Candidates who have qualified and registered for JEE Advanced 2021 will have to use their JEE Advanced 2021 password. If not, then the JEE Main password can be used.
- Once you have logged in, your details will be retrieved from their JEE Main 2021 registration. However, candidates should ensure the auto-generated information is apt and correct. Communicate with the conducting authority in case of any discrepancies.
- The candidates must change their password. While setting up the new password, the candidates will have to set a security question.
- At this stage, the candidates will be able to modify their contact details.
- Check all the information is correct and click on “Submit Changes”.
Step 2 – Filling of Choices
- Once registered, a list of the various courses and also JoSAA 2021 participating institutes will be displayed on the screen.
- The list of choices will be based on the candidate’s performance in JEE Main/ JEE Advanced (Candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced 2021 examination will be eligible for almost all the choices whereas those candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2021 will be able to select only from available choices of NITs, IIITs and GFTIs).
- Fill in the choice as you prefer. Once done selecting all the preferred choices, the candidates will be able to modify the order by selecting “Arrange Filled Choices”. Candidates will be provided with the options of “Choices Rearrange” and “Choices Interchange”.
- The selected options can also be deleted if required. The new course and college preference list will be updated after the candidate saves all the changes that have been made.
Step 3 – Locking of Choices
- Once the candidate has decided and entered his preferred choices, he/she must click on “I agree to lock my choices”.
- If the candidate wishes to make any modifications later then they can click on “I will lock my choices later”.
- Take a print out of the confirmed filled in choices for future reference.
- The print out of the filled choices can be taken only if the candidates enter their JEE Main 2021 roll number and password. If the candidates have qualified JEE Advanced examination, then they will have to enter their JEE Advanced 2021 password.
Step 4 - Payment Of Application Fees
- The candidates have to pay JoSAA 2021 Fees, i.e. e-challan for acceptance of seat and download their "Provisional Allotment Letter". Candidates have to pay the fee through E-Challan or SBI Net Banking.
- The JoSAA 2021 Application fee to be paid by candidates belonging to different categories is given below.

Sept 5 - Reporting at the Allotted Centre
- The candidates who have been allotted seats in different institutes should report at their respective reporting center for the verification of the documents.
- All the original documents should be carried by the candidates to their reporting centre.
- If the candidates do not attend or qualify the verification process, then their admission will be cancelled.
- The candidates should remember that those who are allotted into NIT, IIEST, IIIT, or other GFTIs will have to report only at the reporting centres of the same.
JoSAA 2021 Counselling
The seat allocation and counselling for 31 NITs, 23 IITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 other GFTIs are conducted by JoSAA. The reason for introducing a single platform for the counselling process is to reduce the number of Engineering seats that go vacant in various institutions and also to fast track the process and to make it a lot smoother. After the registration process is completed, the counselling process starts. The registration for JoSAA counselling started on October 6, 2021.
JoSAA conducted the seat allotment in two formats, once as a mock allocation and the second time as a final seat allocation. The mock seat allocation is done to let the candidates have an idea about the colleges that accept their scores in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. After the mock allotment, candidates will be allowed to make changes to their choices of colleges/courses. This process is held in two rounds do that the candidates can refine their college/course choice so that they can get the best one during the final seat allotment process.
The final seat allotment will be conducted in a total of 6 rounds for admission through JoSAA 2021. The seat allotment dates are as follows:
