School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi was founded in 1941. This school was renamed School of Planning and Architecture in 1959. SPA only provides one kind of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs with various kinds of specializations. Even today some specializations which are provided in the SPA Delhi are not available in any other colleges of India.

 

SPA has the intention to make it into a distinguished center of research, innovation, learning, capacity building, and scholarly inquiry to become a globally competitive institution by 2025. This institution aims to make a nationally and internationally known leader in planning and designing human habitat and build the environment.

School of Planning and Architecture Departments:

Department of Architecture:

This department is concerned with the design and construction of buildings in their sociological, technical and environmental context. Architecture Department provides all the enabling skills that are offered to the students.  This department has a library which contains around 30,000 books. It also has a state of the art computer center.

Department of Physical Planning:

School of Planning and Architecture is the first college in India which introduced the department of physical planning in 1989. This department provides the board knowledge and skills necessary to plan for the integrated and balanced development of human settlements and areas of varying sizes.

Department of Architectural Conservation:

Architectural Conservation is a specialization in Architecture that addresses important issues facing our built heritage resources, including historic buildings, groups of buildings, historic areas, heritage cities, and cultural landscapes, comprehensively. This department provides students with the skills and abilities to develop their building practices to Conservation and design in historic areas.

Department of Building Engineering and Management:

Building Engineering and Management departments aim to provide professionals who can deal with complex construction management aspects of building and related infrastructure projects. These departments train the students to take up challenging managerial positions in the industries.

Departments of Environmental Planning:

Environmental Planning plays an important role in the planning and development of human settlements. This department trains the student to deal with the scientific evaluation of various factors for planning environmentally sustainable development of human settlements and regions.

Department of Housing:

This department offers various aspects of habitat development viz. elements of housing policy and finance, infrastructure and technology, design and project formulations, real estate and housing markets, disaster mitigation and management and legislation.

Department of Industrial Design:

Industrial Design came into existence in the industrial revolution of the late 19th to 20th century. Career opportunities for the students passing out of this program are varied. It includes working for the industry, design or architectural studio or setting up an independent practice in design and architecture.

Department of Landscape Architecture:

This degree program aims at giving proficiency in landscape assessment and design techniques by employing ecological principles while keeping in view socio-economic and cultural considerations. The program covers a variety of subject areas such as plant systems and processes, plants and design, landscape engineering, eco-system analysis, and field ecology, etc.

Department of Regional Planning:

This department aims at imparting knowledge in landscape assessment and design techniques by applying ecological principles while keeping in view socio-economic and cultural considerations. The program covers a variety of subject areas such as plant systems and processes, plants and design, landscape engineering, eco-system analysis, and field ecology, etc.

Department of Urban Design:

Department of Urban Design is offered through interactive design studios where the dynamics of growth and change in Indian cities are documented and design solutions are prepared. A large number of employment opportunities exist for the students passing out with the urban design degree.

Department of Urban Planning:

The Urban Planning department creates professionals who are sensitized about the various faces of human settlement. These departments also produce professionals who have the required analytics skills needed for performing the assigned task related to planning and implementation.

Department of Transport Planning:

The program covers issues related to the role of transport in development; identification and analysis of problems, issues and constraints in regional and urban development; development of mathematical models for transport demand projections; preparation of integrated land use transport planning; traffic engineering and design; appreciation of the role of public transport including features and selection of system technologies and their planning, operations and management; project preparation, evaluation and management, law and organization, etc.

SPA Facilities:

School of Planning and Architecture has two separate libraries for both Architecture and planning. This library is well equipped with a computer and electronic facilities like online researches to support the teaching, learning, and research activities of the school. SPA library also provides journals, documents, and study materials to the students. Library also provides daily newspapers to the students to keep in touch with the current situations.

School of Planning and Architecture Placements:

SPA has a placement cell on their campus. This placement cell provides job opportunities for the students. This cell also prepares the students for Several rounds included in the interviews. The SPA placement procedure is undertaken by the placement cell.

SPA Eligibility Criteria:

School of Planning and Architecture Delhi offers the following courses at the UG, PG & doctoral level:

B.Arch./B. Plan
Candidates must score at least 50% in 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry as main subjects
M.Arch./M. Plan/M.Des. Candidates must have B.Arch. with 55% aggregate marks
MBEM Graduation with 55% aggregate marks is required
Ph.D.
Candidates must have a Post-Graduation degree in a relevant subject with 55% marks

School of Planning and Architecture Admissions:

The admission procedure of the School of Planning and Architecture is undertaken by the school management.

  • Admission to B.Arch., B.Plan is done based on scores obtained by the applicants on JEE Mains. Applicants qualifying the exam will be called for the counseling process.
  • The selection of candidates for PG courses is merit-based. The institute will conduct a written test and a round of personal interviews. A portfolio of the candidate's work as well as work experience will also be considered. GATE/CEED exam qualified candidates will be preferred.
  • Admissions to the Ph.D. program needs a valid score in UGC-NET examinations. 

 

SPA Hostel Details:

The School of Planning and Architecture facility provides the hostel for both boys and girls. The enrollment procedure of the hostel is undertaken by the hostel management.
