Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Chennai, was formally inaugurated in 1959 by Prof. Humayun Kabir. The Institute has approval from the All India Council for Technical Education [AICTE]. The college is certified to ISO 9001. The college was ranked at 1st place in engineering and 2nd in the overall category by Indian ranking NIRF 2018.

It has various departments for the various discipline of engineering and science like Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Chemist, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Design, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Studies, Mathematical, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Ocean Engineering. IIT Madras offers M.Sc, MA, MBA, B.tech courses. IIT Chennai Admission is based on the entrance test. The college has all the facilities of research and development, students are doing different research work at the national and global level.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras is one among the foremost institutes of national importance in higher technological education, basic and applied research. In 1956, the German Government offered technical assistance for establishing an institute of higher education in engineering in India. The first Indo-German agreement in Bonn, West Germany for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras was signed in 1959.

IIT is known for the quality of education and distinguished approach. The academic character at the Institute is a rare blend of contemporary day professional skills and the traditional emphasis on bestowing knowledge. It has a huge campus, equipped with Wi-Fi and other modern facilities. The College conducts frequent Workshops and learning opportunities for the overall development of the student.

IIT Madras is a residential institute with nearly 550 faculty, 8000 students and 1250 administrative & supporting staff and is a self-contained campus located in a beautiful wooded land of about 250 hectares. It has established itself as a premier centre for teaching, research and industrial consultancy in the country.

Students have complete freedom to start and work with student societies and clubs as per campus rules. The main festivals on campus are Shaastra( the tech fest), Saarang( the cultural fest) and Inter IIT sports meet.  It is funded by the alumni donations primarily and also gets funds from multiple startups from seniors or alumni who used to work here.

Each semester students are allowed to do maximum 30 credits and minimum 19 credits. Commonly it is credit based course. A 2 credit course will be having 2 classes a week, 3 credit course will be having 3 classes a week, 4 credit course will be 4 classes a week. Quality and method of teaching will be dependent on the professor of a course. But overall our quality of learning is very excellent. 


CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS

There are numerous activities in the colleges. They are of co-curricular, extracurricular types. Two major fests named shaastra and a technical festival and Saarang. Entire college life is filled with fun.

Eligibility Criteria

B.Tech

  • The candidates must have completed the 12th grade with valid score in JEE Advanced.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 75% marks in Higher Secondary Examination. There will be no preference of 10+2 marks for calculating the ranks in JEE Main.
  • Final selection will be made by JoSAA Counselling committee.

M.Tech

  • The candidates should have discipline Bachelors degree with valid score in GATE.
  • Passed Bachelors degree in relevant subject [B.E/ B.Tech] with at least 6.5 CGPA [on 10 point scale] or 60% marks. Relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/ PH candidates.
  • Admissions to M.Tech courses are based on candidate’s JAM and GATE ranking, respectively.

MA

  • The candidates should have discipline Bachelors degree with valid score in HSE.
  • The candidates should have Passed 10+2 with 55% aggregate marks
  • For M.A program, the admissions will be based on the Humanities & Social Science Entrance Exam [HSEE] score conducted by the institute.

MBA

  • The candidates should be graduate with having valid score in CAT.
  • The candidate must be a Graduate in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognized University.

M.Sc

  • The candidates should have discipline Bachelors degree with valid score in JAM.
  • The candidates should have Bachelors degree in respective disciplines with at least 55% aggregate marks.
  • Admissions to M.Sc courses are based on candidate’s JAM and GATE ranking.

MS

  • M.S [By Research] program is offered to the candidates in two specializations and they are  Engineering and Management.
  • Students applying to this course must hold a B.E./ B.Tech degree and qualify GATE/ CSIR NET/ UGC NET exam.

EMBA

  • Minimum three years of work experience should be there for candidates.
  • Candidates should have a bachelors degree in any discipline the 60% and above in Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline
  • The entrance exam will comprise of multiple choice questions on quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, and business aptitude.

PhD

  • Master or a dual degree in the relevant disciplines with the CGPA of 6.5 or above.
  • GATE, CSIR-NET or UGC-NET score followed by an interview.
  • For PhD admissions, the candidates are admitted through entrance exam followed by the counselling at the institute’s level.
