IIT Palakkad was established in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development [MHRD]. The institute has secured 68th rank by NIRF rankings 2022 in the Engineering category. The Institute admits B.Tech students through JEE Advanced which will be conducted on August 28, 2022. Admission for M.Tech is through GATE and the exam for the year 2023 is conducted in the month of February 2023. IIT Palakkad is now functioning as a temporary campus and the upcoming main campus is a 500-acre plot at the foot of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

IITPKD offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in the disciplines of engineering, science, and humanities & social Science.
