IIT Palakkad was established in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development [MHRD]. The institute has secured 64th rank by NIRF rankings 2024 in the Engineering category. IIT Palakkad is now functioning as a temporary campus and the upcoming main campus is a 500-acre plot at the foot of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

IIT Palakkad admission for artificial intelligence is now open for the year 2022. The admission is done online on the official website of the institute. The Institute admits B.Tech students through JEE Advanced, M.Tech through GATE, and for M.Sc through JAM entrance examinations conducted at various centers across India.
