Placements & Internships : I have not done any internship yet. But some of my seniors and fellow classmates have done internships in IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, ISRO-Bhubaneswar as well as in many start-ups and IT companies with stipends ranging from 5,000 to 18,000. The first batch of IIITG will graduate in 2017. The placement cell has been set up and is active now. Placement interviews are expected to be held by the end of December 2016. Till now, there has been only a pool campus placement interview by IBM where 2 students from department of ECE have been absorbed. There is no such thing as an Alumni network in IIIT-G as the first batch is not out yet.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (IIIT-G) admits students strictly on the basis of the rank secured in the JEE Mains examination. It participates in the counselling conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board and there is no provision for a student to apply directly to the college without undergoing counselling. The eligibility criteria is the same as that for the JEE Mains examination. For the admission procedure, the student simply has to follow the CSAB Counselling. There are 30 seats for B.Tech (Electronics and Communication Engineering ) out of which 8 seats are reserved for OBC-NCL, 5 seats for SC and 2 seats for ST. The cut-offs for ECE at the end of Round 4 of the 2016 counselling are General: 22,660, OBC: 6,533, SC: 4,916, ST: 2,720.

Fees & Scholarships : The course fee is 53,000 for General/OBC  and 44,000 for SC/ST students. There are no special loans or scholarship schemes provided by the institute.

Academics & Faculty : The daily routine is quite rigorous. Class timings are from 9am to 5pm. There is a lunch break in between. Classes are held strictly according to a time-table sent to the students at the beginning of each semester. There are generally 2-3 three hour lab sessions per week. Exams are held quite frequently. Apart from the mid-semester and end-semester examinations, there are numerous class tests and assignments for each subject. Projects are compulsory for students in the final year. However, they may also work on various projects before the final year if they are willing to do so. The quality of teaching depends on the professors. Most of the teachers deliver great quality education. The method of teaching also varies from teacher-to-teacher. Most of the teachers use powerpoint slides. However, some also prefer the conventional black board method. Overall, the quality of education received is very fine, no doubt, but can be very pressurising and hectic at times.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : As the permanent campus of the institute is still under construction, the students are housed in a temporary hostel which is a 45-min drive away from the temporary college building. A 3-BHK flat is shared among 6 students and there is a common dining hall for all the students. The flats are quite good with 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies each and 24-hours water supply (with only occasional disruptions). However, there is no 24-hour power backup and students can expect power-cuts. The hostel fee is approx. 5,000 each semester, along with a 3,500 to be paid every month as mess fee which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Thus, each meal costs about 40 rupees. To be honest, the quality of the meal is not very good. And,to worsen the scenario, it is compulsory for every student living in the hostel to take up the mess. There is no such provision that a student can skip the mess and arrange for food from other caterers. There are,however, number of PGs/private hostels in the city if the student wishes to live outside. The classrooms are, however, very well furnished and sophisticated. The classrooms, labs, libraries are all air-conditioned and unbelievably clean. The equipments in the labs are in good condition. Special care is taken to keep the washrooms clean. Overall, the management of the college in this field is simply excellent. However, the dining hall is a small crowded place, mainly due to lack of space (as this is only a temporary campus). The Wi-fi speed is quite good in college but not very proper in the hostel and most of the students have to resort to setting up their private Wi-fis in their hostel rooms.
