Macmillan Education conducts ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools), better known as IAIS (International Assessments for Indian Schools) in India in partnership with Educational Assessment Australia (EAA), a division of the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

Started in 2004, it is a diagnostic assessment test that shines a light on the strength and weaknesses of a student and helps teachers and parents understand the child’s learning curve, and help discern the difficulties they face.

Along with IAIS English Olympiad, Macmillan conducts three more exams in collaboration for ICAS. They are.

• Science

• Mathematics 

• Digital Technologies

IAIS English Olympiad 2024

IAIS English Olympiad is conducted for classes II to XII. IAIS Foundation provides an extensive independent evaluation of student's skills, knowledge, and understanding in these core learning areas.

IAIS English Olympiad is made in a way to analyze the thinking process of a student and to find areas in which he/she lacks. Students have to go through a variety of content, which includes clippings from newspapers, comic books, play scripts, and many more.

They should also be able to assess a pictorial representation of data such as maps, graphs, and pie charts and understand the visual information embedded in it. The difficulty level with each passing question will increase, and students have to deal with circumstances occurring in daily life to abstract concepts and sophisticated language structures.

Application Form for IAIS English Olympiad

The IAIS English registration process is done by the respective school. Schools have to contact Macmillan (the organization which conducts IAIS in collaboration with Educational Assessments Australia) for registration of the school as an exam center and for student registration. The school has to then send the details of registration along with the fees to Macmillan.

IAIS 2024 English Admit Card

Admit card is an important document when attending IAIS English Examination. IAIS English Olympiad admit card consists of a number of details such as roll number, name, school name. Students are requested to carry the hard copy of the hall ticket to the examination center.

The IAIS English Olympiad admit card is sent to the respective schools by Macmillan after the school completes the registration process.

IAIS English Olympiad Syllabus

The syllabus for an exam helps students familiarize themselves with the topics on which the organization conducting the exam asks questions. IAIS English Olympiad syllabus helps them prepare effectively in the time they have leading the better results.

Topics in IAIS English Olympiad are divided into five major categories. They are:

• Reading for meaning in factual texts

• Reading for meaning in literary texts

• Textual devices

• Syntax

• Vocabulary

IAIS English Olympiad English Exam Format

• Being an assessment test rather than a competitive exam, each question is worth one mark with no marks deducted for wrong answers.
• The questions become harder as the students move from the first question to the last. The questions at the end of the Paper test the student's higher-order thinking skills and are given more weight and help the examiners when developing their assessment report.
• The questions are also divided by the skills assessed and are reflected in the student Performance report.

IAIS English Olympiad Sample Papers

IAIS English Olympiad sample test papers aid students to understand the nuances of the examination. It helps students to understand the instructions to follow during the exam as well as to test their levels of preparation.

IAIS English Olympiad sample papers assist students by helping them adjust their solving speed, understand the difficulty level of questions, and understand the areas they have to strengthen their concepts in.

IAIS English Results

IAIS English Olympiad gives results in the form of a diagnostic report. Macmillan provides two types of reports.

• A school report comparing it with averages of other schools in the region as well as by comparing each student’s performance with the school average.

• A student report explaining how he has performed in each skill area and in comparison with the school average.
