International Mathematical Olympiad 2024-25 Stages

The International Mathematical Olympiad allows children to seek exposure to various cultures and meet peers from all around the world. A team represents each country which includes a maximum of 6 students, a team leader, and one or two official observers. The students who represent the country are selected based on the several workshops and tests they appear in. Following are the stages:

Stage 1: Pre- Regional Mathematics Olympiad (PRMO)

The first stage to appear in International Mathematical Olympiad is the Pre- Regional Mathematics Olympiad (PRMO). It is conducted all over India in a registered school, Kendriya Vidyalayas, or a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. Students belonging to classes 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and are born on or after Aug 1, 2000, are eligible to write PRMO 2024-25.

Stage 2: Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO)

The second stage in the International Mathematical Olympiad 2024-25 is the Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO). It is conducted by regional coordinators at selected centers in each region all over India. Students are given 6-7 problems to solve in 3 hours as RMO is a descriptive exam. The results are sent to HBCSE after the answer sheets are corrected by the team in each region.

Stage (1+2): International Olympiad Qualifier of Mathematics (IOQM)

From the academic year 2024-25, HBCSE is conducting the exam only under three stages. The preliminary stages PRMO (stage1) and RMO (stage 2) are clubbed and conducted as a single exam, i.e., International Olympiad Qualifier of Mathematics (IOQM) which is regulated by the Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India).

Stage 3: Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO)

HBCSE, Mumbai, conducts Indian National Mathematics Olympiad in 30 centers all over India. Top 45 students who qualify INMO are invited to the next round and awarded INMO merit certificates,

Stage 4: IMO Training Camp

The students who will represent the country are selected based on the IMO Training Camp conducted by HBCSE, Mumbai. The training camp includes training and several selection tests.

Stage 5: IMO Pre Departure Camp (Cancelled)

The Pre Departure Camp at HBCSE, Mumbai, is attended by six students selected from the group who have attended IMOTC for 8-10 days. This rigorous training camp helps the student to better their theoretical knowledge.

Stage 6: International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)

International Mathematical Olympiad 2024-25 is hosted in a member country, and the students are invited to participate in the exam. The event is ten days long. The first two days are the exam, and the next few days are arranged to bring students together. Out of the 600 students, only 50 or fewer are awarded gold medals on the result day.
