CMAT Exam Details

There are several questions one might get in there mind when it comes to CMAT Exam hence in this article we have tried to answer such questions for the upcoming CMAT Exam.

How CMAT Ranks are Assigned?

As per the marking scheme of CMAT exam pattern 2021:

  • For every correct answer, the candidate will be granted four marks.

  • For every incorrect answer, one mark will be subtracted.

  • In case a question has multiple correct answers in such a situation:

    • Multiple correct options will be given four marks.

    • Incorrect answers will lead to a deduction of one mark.

    • Unattempted questions will not be marked.

  • In a case that the question is ignored or dropped then all students will get four marks irrespective if the question is attempted or not.

If a candidate obtains the same scores as another candidate, the ranking is done considered depending on the sectional scores:

  • Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation

  • Logical Reasoning

  • Language Comprehension

  • General Awareness

Negative markings only exist when they have attempted the wrong answer for the given question. IF not CMAT does not have negative marking for unattempted questions.

How to Calculate Percentile for CMAT 2020?

In simple words, the percentile is the percentage of students who have scored less than a particular candidate.

Example :

If the student secures 95 percentile then this means that 95% of students who have written the exam have scored less then him. Or in other words, the student has scored more marks than 95% of students.

  • A formula used to calculate the percentile of the candidate is:

Formula: Percentile P = ( (N- candidater rank)/N) x 100. (Where P = percentile and N = total number of candidates appeared for the exam).

Is CMAT Difficult?

The overall level of difficulty of the CMAT can be easy but it is the mistake that cost the marks. Ideally, the candidate should attempt 67+ questions in the given three hours & should have the accuracy of more than 85%. As compared to CMAT, CAT difficulty level ranges from moderate to difficult and as high percentile is required to get admission into IIMs, so the CMAT is easier than CAT.

160 to 285 can be considered as a good score to get higher percentile and to get a good college.

CMAT Exam Cutoff

After the results are announced, the cutoffs of the B-schools are announced on their websites. The cutoff is decided by colleges and it varies on factors such as:

  • The difficulty of the exam paper.
  • Percentile of the students, etc.

Not only the overall percentile is considered but also the sectional wise percentile is considered. Sectional wise percentile is set by the college, on the basis of which the students can apply for admission.

compared to CAT, CMAT exam is a bit easier. As the questions are difficult and the number of students attending the exam is also high CAT is relatively competitive. Also, the CAT exam is conducted to get colleges like IIM's, so the difficulty will be higher.
