The candidate must focus on the following syllabus in order to get an idea regarding the topics to be covered. The SET 2019  Syllabus contains the section of topics which is mandatory to be referred before giving the examination.

It covers five sections which are as follows:

  • Logical Reasoning

  • Legal Reasoning

  • Analytical Reasoning

  • Reading Comprehension

  • General Knowledge

Logical and Analytical Reasoning:

  • Arrangement – Seating/Circular

  • Blood Relationship

  • Series

  • Coding-Decoding

  • Cubes

  • Assumption

  • Syllogisms

  • Venn Diagram

Legal Reasoning:

  • Extracting findings of fact from cases, and the supporting reasoning based on the rules, policies and evidence

  • Identifying arguments in cases, including policy-based reasoning and evidence-based reasoning, and reasoning about the legal sufficiency of admitted evidence; and

  • Using basic linguistic technology in legal practice.

Reading Comprehension:

You need to concentrate on English based comprehension passages and grammar.

  • Visualization: Understanding and visualization of simple and complex 2D & 3D geometric shapes, their manipulations and spatial relationships through representations in pictorial and geometric forms

  • Observational, Perceptual and Reasoning abilities: Ability to read and see objects and information beyond obvious details, make connections, make comparisons, form opinions, draw meanings & conclusions. Analyze your observations, express your point of view and present in a systematic and structured manner.

  • Creative and Problem Solving abilities: Ability to visualize and relate images around us. Ability to identify a problem and attempt to provide solutions

  • Application of Basic knowledge of Science and Mathematics: Observing applications of basic principles of science and mathematics learned up to standard 10th in the day-to-day activities & objects and finding the interesting relevance.

  • Art, Craft, Culture, Design and Environment: General awareness of Art, Craft, Culture, Design and Environment in Indian as well as in Global context – Various topics and sub-topics, people, material, tools, techniques, issues & concerns, influences, period, and contemporary trends.

The syllabus for the common section of the SET test is as follows:

  • Data Interpretation - introduction to data interpretation, bar graphs, calculation techniques, column graphs, data sufficiency, graphs representing area, line charts, pie charts, tables and caselets and venn diagrams.

  • Quantitative Aptitude - pipes and cisterns, averages, binomial theorem, coordinate geometry, functions, geometry, inequalities, linear equations, logarithm, mensuration, mixtures and alligations, number systems and number theory, percentages, permutation and combination, probability, profit and loss, progressions - arithmetic, geometric and harmonic, quadratic equations, bicycle races, clocks, ratio and proportion, set theory, simple and compound interest, speed, distance and time, trigonometry and blood relations.

  • Logical Reasoning and its syllabus ranges from Boolean logic, critical reasoning and cubes to family tree, logic based problems, logical deductions, logical links, reasoning puzzles, sequencing and arrangement, syllogism, verbal reasoning based on binary logic, cryptographic decoding on a basic level, alphabets and numbers logic identification.
