Functions of JoSAA
The primary function of JoSAA is to allot seats to all qualified candidates and help in the admission process. The seat allotment process takes place in the following manner:
Step 1: Registration
The willing candidates who want to be a part of the JoSAA counselling must register themselves.
Step 2: Selection and Locking of Choices
Candidates must fill out the institute and branch of their choice after registering. Applicants who have passed only JEE Mains are only eligible for seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, while candidates who have passed JEE Advanced are eligible for seats in IITs.
Step 3: Declaration of Seat Allotment
Rank, category, preference, and seat availability will all be taken into consideration when allocating candidates' seats at the institute. The seat allocation outcome is made published online. Candidates who have received a seat, must download the provisional seat allotment letter and pay the applicable seat acceptance fees.
Step 4: Reporting at Centers
Candidates who have received an IIT seat must report solely to the IIT, but candidates who have received an NIT, IIIT, or GFTI seat may report to the respective institute. At the reporting centre, candidates are given the option to FREEZE, FLOAT, or SLIDE the seat that has been assigned to them after their documents have been confirmed.
Step 5: Participation in subsequent rounds
Candidates can take part in the counselling rounds if they choose the FLOAT or SLIDE option. If a candidate is happy with the seat assigned, they can report to the institute assigned and confirm their admission, or they can continue to take part in the subsequent rounds.
Step 6: Confirmation of Admission at allotted institute
Candidates must show up at the institute to which they have been assigned once all rounds of seat distribution are finished. Candidates must have all of the supporting documentation given on the JoSAA website. Payment of fees is required at the time of admission confirmation.
