- To be eligible for the KCET exam, students must have completed at least 7 years of education in government or government-recognized institutions in Karnataka, starting from 1st standard to 2nd PUC/12th standard.
- students must have completed the 1st and 2nd year Pre-University Examination or 11th and 12th standard within Karnataka, and at least one parent should have studied in Karnataka for seven years.
- The candidate and either of their parents should have Kannada, Tulu, or Kodava as their mother tongue, and the candidate should have passed the qualifying examination from an institution outside Karnataka while residing outside the state.
- students with Kannada, Tulu, or Kodava as their mother tongue residing in certain areas outside Karnataka will be required to take a Kannada Language test.
- students who have studied for ten full academic years in Kannada Medium outside Karnataka are exempt from the Kannada Language test.
