MHT CET Reservation Criteria 2024 followed by the State Government of Maharashtra aims to empower the lesser privileged sections of society. Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) is the exam conducted annually by the Government of Maharashtra for admission of students to professional undergraduate courses in colleges across the state.

MHT CET 2024 Reservation Criteria Specification

Candidates looking to apply for reservation benefits in the 2024 MHT CET need to be aware of certain information that is crucial in claiming the reservation benefits of MHT CET. 

  1. The reservations will only apply to students belonging to the state of Maharashtra. 
  2. The reservation policies will abide by the policies of the Government of Maharashtra and India. 
  3. Candidates must go through and qualify for the MHT CET eligibility requirements. 
  4. The reservation seats are held for the backward caste and other reserved classes of the state. 
  5. The reservation category must be chosen when filling out the MHT CET application form. 

MHT CET 2024 Category-Wise Reservation Criteria

The reservation percentages for different categories of people are mentioned in the table below. The percentage of reservation seats available for candidates comes under the CAP.

MHT CET 2024 Reservation Details

The reservation of seats for candidates from the backward class groups in the state of Maharashtra is as follows. 

1. Reservation for Women Candidates

There is a reservation of 30 per cent of women's seats per the provisions of Government Resolution No. (123/2000)/ GEC-1000 / Tech. Edu.-1, dated Apr 17, 2000. However, there will be no reservation of seats for women who come under the categories of Defense, Persons with Disabilities, and Orphans.

2. Reservations for Children of Defense Service Personnel

A reservation of 5 per cent of seats of an institution's total approved intake, subject to a limit of 5 seats in each CAP institution, is reserved for the children of ex-service personnel residing in Maharashtra. This reservation also includes:

  • Children of active service staff (DEF-3) who are transferred to the state of Maharashtra if they do not have a domicile status in the state of Maharashtra. 
  • Children who have appeared and passed the HSC examination from a college or school in the state of Maharashtra are stationed in the state under the provision of family accommodation retention at the last duty station on the grounds of education for children but do not belong to the state. 

3. Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD Candidates)

Five per cent of every CAP institution's seats are allocated for people with disabilities. The minimum disability threshold has to be 40 per cent for one to avail of this reservation. In addition, the candidates must submit certificates issued by the competent authorities. The disabilities that account for the reservation are given below.

4. Reservations for EWS Candidates

The Economically Weaker Candidates are allotted 10 per cent of seats under the MHT CET Reservation Criteria. These 10 per cent of seats reserved are supposed to be more than the actual sanctioned intake. 

5. Reservations for Orphan Candidates

Under the reservation category, Orphan candidates are assigned 1% of the CAP seats. However, this excludes All India Seats and minority institutions.

MHT CET 2024 - How to Apply for Reservation?

For claiming reservation benefits, the candidate has to apply for reservation faultlessly by following the correct procedure. The steps to follow while applying for a reservation are given below.

  • Candidates must correctly fill out the application form for MHT CET 2024.
  • The caste, disability and other valid certificates and testimonials must be submitted along with the Preference form.
  • Submitting the 2024 MHT CET reservation form is mandatory, without which candidates will not be granted reservation seats. 

MHT CET 2024 Reservation - Preference Form

The preference form that needs to be filled and submitted along with the required documents after the announcement of the merit list is essential for candidates to claim reservations. The proper process involved in submitting the preference form is listed here. 

  • After the MHT CET 2024 merit list gets declared, candidates will be invited to fill out the preference form. 
  • The preference forms must be filled and submitted at the Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad centres. 
  • Candidates must meet the required eligibility criteria and provide the necessary documents. 
  • These documents to be submitted include Photo ID Proof, Domicile Certificate, Nationality Certificate, HSC Mark Sheet, Constitutional Reservation Claim, Specified Reservation Claim, Medical Fitness Certificate, Additional Weightage Claim and SSC Mark Sheet, School Leaving Certificate and Birth Certificate.

Exceptions to MHT CET Reservations 2024

The exception in the reservation categories is the candidates from the Special Backward Classes(SBC) that include the classes of Scheduled Tribes (ST), Vimukta Jati (VJ / DT – v), Nomadic Tribes (NT & c), Nomadic Tribes (NT & d), Nomadic Tribes (NT & M) and Other Backward Classes (OBC). 

These candidates should apply with their names under the non-creamy layer certificate as stated in the Government resolution to claim the benefits of reservation. The candidate will be prosecuted under the Caste Certificate Act, 2000, when they do not follow the legal procedure and demand reservation through other means. 

MHT CET 2024 - Eligibility Criteria

The Eligibility Criteria must be met by the candidates who take MHT CET to be considered for admission to colleges that offer admission through the exam. The eligibility criteria for MHT CET 2024 are as follows. 

  • The candidates must be of Indian nationality.
  •  The candidates must have qualified for the 12th standard or any equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects from any recognized board. 

Students yet to appear for the Class 12 board exams in 2024 are also eligible to take the exam. MHT CET has no age limitation for candidates appearing for the exam.

Candidates looking to appear for the MHT CET 2024 should be acquainted with the candidate type eligibility. Therefore, the table for the same is given below for applicants' reference.

  • Minimum 50 per cent marks in these subjects for the General category.
  • Minimum 45 per cent marks in the subjects for Reserved category and PwD candidates from Maharashtra only. 
  • Passed Engineering diploma with an aggregate of a minimum of 50 per cent for the General category and minimum of 45 per cent for the (Reserved category and PwD candidates from Maharashtra only).
  • Passed B.Sc.Degree from any recognized university as established by UGC with a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent for the General category and 45 per cent for the (Reserved category and PwD candidates from Maharashtra only.) 
  • These candidates must have qualified class12 with Maths as a compulsory subject.
All India Candidates (AI Quota)
Jammu & Kashmir Migrant Candidates
Children of NRI/OCI/PIO/Indian workers in Gulf Countries (CWGC), Foreign National (FN) Candidates
  • Educational Qualification: Qualified HSC or equivalent examination with, 
  • Mathematics and Physics as mandatory subjects, along with Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical / Vocational. 
  • Minimum 50 per cent marks in these subjects together.

Maharashtra State Candidature

Reservation is provided only for candidates from the state of Maharashtra. Hence, it is necessary to be familiar with the Maharashtra State Candidature, which is given in the table below.

  • Candidates who belong to Maharashtra (Home or Birthplace)
  • Qualified HSC or SSC or Diploma in Engineering or Bachelor of Science.
Type B Candidates are not coming under Type A, but either Mother or Father are Maharashtra's domiciles. A certificate must be provided as proof. 
Type C Candidates are not coming under Type A or Type B. However, their Mother or Father works for the Indian Government or Government of India Undertaking. Therefore, the parent should have been posted and must be reporting for duty in Maharashtra before the deadline for submission of MHT CET applications. 
Type D Candidates are not coming under any of the types mentioned above. However, either the parents are employees or retired employees of the Maharashtra Government or the Maharashtra Undertaking Government.
Type E Candidates with Marathi as their mother tongue and SSC or HSC qualification from a recognized institution located in a disputed border region of Maharashtra-Karnataka.
