UGC NET Exam Pattern 2019

National Eligibility Test or UGC NET 2019 is a national level exam conducted by NTA on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC). This national level test is a qualifying exam for lectureship in universities. It is also mandatory for some research programs. Listed below are key facts related to the exam pattern:

  • No. of Papers: Two Papers

  • Subjects: Paper I will consist of General Aptitude Questions, Paper 2 will have questions related to the subject selected by candidates.

  • The medium of Paper: Hindi and English are the only options to attempt UGC NET. The choice for the paper medium can be exercised at the time of filling the form.

  • Negative Marking: NTA will not be not following negative marking scheme in UGC NET.

Paper 1:

  • Number of Questions: Paper 1 consists of 50 questions.

  • Questions to be Attempted: Candidates should answer at least 50 questions.

  • Maximum marks: A maximum of 100 marks will be awarded for paper 1 if all the answers are right.

  • Duration: The duration of Paper 1 is 60 minutes

Paper 2:

  • Number of Questions: Paper 2 has 100 questions and all of them are supposed to be attempted.

  • Total Marks: The marks will be awarded to the applicant out of a total of 100 marks.

  • Duration: The maximum time allotted for Paper 2 is 120 minutes.

  • Each question carries 2 marks. 

Provisions for persons with disabilities: 

  • Paper-1 and Paper-2: 25 minutes of compensatory time would be provided for Paper-1 and Paper-2 separately.

  • Paper-3: 50 minutes of compensatory time shall be provided for Paper-3. CBSE will also provide the test booklet in Braille, for the visually challenged candidates.

  • Scribe: Candidates who are not in a position to attempt the exam on their own can request the services of a scribe by making a prior request.

The UGC NET exam is conducted in three papers:

  • Paper I
  • Paper II
  • Paper III

The paper I is common for all candidates and consists of 60 questions from general aptitude section, out of which at least 50 needs to be attempted. The duration of Paper I is 75 minutes.

Paper II and Paper III consists of questions from the selected subjects.

Paper II has 50 questions all of which need to be compulsorily attempted in a duration of 75 minutes.

Paper III, in turn, has 75 questions all of which are compulsory. Duration for Paper III is 150 minutes.

The exam pattern is as follows:

The test consists of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 22nd January 2017 (Sunday) in three separate sessions as under:

Paper-I is for 100 Marks, 60 questions of which 50 are mandatory. The duration is 1¼ Hours (09.30 am to 10.45 am, IST)]

Paper-II is for 100 Marks, 50 questions of which all are compulsory. The duration is 1¼ Hours (11.15 am to 12.30 pm, IST)]

Paper-III is for 150 Marks, 75 questions of which all are compulsory. The duration is 2½ Hours (02.00 pm to 04.30 pm, IST)]

All the questions of Paper-II and Paper-III are compulsory, covering the entire syllabus (including all electives, without options).

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.
