UGC NET is conducted biannually, to select candidates to occupy the position of Assistant Professor at reputed universities nationwide, and award Junior Research Fellowship. The exam is going to be held from May 2, 2021, till May 17, 2021. The application forms have been released online. Candidates can apply for the same till March 9, 2021. It is important for candidates to familiarize themselves with the pattern of examination. All the details related to the same are discussed on this page.

UGC NET 2021 Exam Pattern Highlights

The exam pattern for UGC NET 2021 has been revised. Previously the exam was given for two hours, and there was a break in between Paper 1 and Paper 2. But for the upcoming exam, there will be no break given in between Paper 1 & Paper 2, and the exam will be conducted straight for 3 hours. UGC NET is now held as a Computer-Based Test. The candidates will have to answer two papers, in a duration of three hours. The first paper is common for every candidate. It has 50 questions. The second paper will be subject-specific, and will have 100 multiple choice questions. It is mandatory for every candidate to attempt both the papers. The particulars of the UGC NET exam pattern are given below:

  • Medium: Hindi and English are the only options to attempt UGC NET 2021 in. The choice for the paper medium can be exercised at the time of filling the form as per the UGC NET Exam Pattern.

Provisions for persons with disabilities (PwD)

  • Paper-1 and Paper-2: 25 minutes of compensatory time would be provided for Paper-1 and Paper-2 separately.
  • Scribe: Candidates who are not in a position to attempt the exam on their own can request the services of a scribe by making a prior request.

Distribution of Questions in UGC NET Paper 1

It has already been mentioned that UGC NET Paper 1 will have 50 multiple choice questions, and the maximum marks awarded would be 100. UGC NET 2021 Marking Scheme

There are no negative markings in the UGC NET 2021, as per the new exam pattern, so the candidates are advised to attempt all the questions. The marking scheme for UGC NET 2021 is given below:

UGC NET 2021 Exam Sessions

The new exam timings are slightly different from the previous ones. Earlier, Paper 1 was held for an hour, and then there would be a break before commencing Paper 2. However, the new exam pattern will consist of no breaks between Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Q1: Is there any negative marking in the UGC NET 2021 Exam? 

A: The candidates must note that there is no negative marking in the UGC NET 2021 exam. They should try not to leave any question unattempted. 

Q2: Will UGC NET 2021 be an offline test? 

A: As per the revised exam pattern, UGC NET 2021 will be held as on online test, and the candidates will not get any break between paper 1 and paper 2. 

Q3: How many questions are there in Paper 2, in UGC NET 2021? 

A: The subject-specific second paper will have 100 questions.

The exam pattern is as follows:

The test consists of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 22nd January 2017 (Sunday) in three separate sessions as under:

Paper-I is for 100 Marks, 60 questions of which 50 are mandatory. The duration is 1¼ Hours (09.30 am to 10.45 am, IST)]

Paper-II is for 100 Marks, 50 questions of which all are compulsory. The duration is 1¼ Hours (11.15 am to 12.30 pm, IST)]

Paper-III is for 150 Marks, 75 questions of which all are compulsory. The duration is 2½ Hours (02.00 pm to 04.30 pm, IST)]

All the questions of Paper-II and Paper-III are compulsory, covering the entire syllabus (including all electives, without options).

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.

How many sets of exams will be there for UGC NET?

The UGC NET exam is conducted in three papers:

  • Paper I
  • Paper II
  • Paper III

The paper I is common for all candidates and consists of 60 questions from general aptitude section, out of which at least 50 needs to be attempted. The duration of Paper I is 75 minutes.

Paper II and Paper III consists of questions from the selected subjects.

Paper II has 50 questions all of which need to be compulsorily attempted in a duration of 75 minutes.

Paper III, in turn, has 75 questions all of which are compulsory. Duration for Paper III is 150 minutes.

There will be 3 papers for the test. Paper-I is general paper and includes questions in research or teaching aptitude whereas Paper II & III are based on the topics covered under M.Tech IT course. for more details click here.
