Introduction to IGNOU OPENMAT 2019

  • About: The Indira Gandhi National Open University Management Aptitude Test, commonly known as IGNOU OPENMAT was established in 1985 and currently offers 227 academic programmes through 67 regional centres spread across the country. It is an aptitude test designed to assess the candidate’s aptitude in Management.

  • Grandiosity: Started in 1985, it offered 2 courses with a strength of 4500+ students based on IGNOU exam results and the university transformed over years in India and other countries, offering an overall 227 certificates, diploma, degree, and doctoral programmes. Now, it serves over 3 million students in India and other countries.

  • Conducting Authority: Indira Gandhi National Open University Management Admission Test (IGNOU OPENMAT) is conducted by School of Management Studies (SOMS), Indira Gandhi National Open University for admission into the post graduation program and diploma courses in management happens twice in a year. The University has made a significant mark in the areas of higher education, community education, and continual professional development. 

  • Frequency: The IGNOU OPENMAT exam is conducted twice a year. For 2019, the code names for the two sessions are OPENMAT XLIV and OPENMAT XLV. The first session will be conducted in the month of August and the second session will be conducted in the month of February followed by IGNOU exam results.

  • Level: The IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 is a national level entrance exam.

  • Enrollment: Currently around 3 million students in India and abroad are studying various courses through 21 schools of studies and a network of 67 regional centres.

IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 Courses Offered

Apart from MBA, IGNOU exam results are also considered for admission to various other Management programs offered by School of Management Studies under IGNOU. The courses offered are as given below:

IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 Important Dates

  • Application form: IGNOU OPENMAT application form 2019 is available on the official website from 17th January 2019 until 14th February 2019.

  • Exam Date: The IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 exam will be conducted on 10th March 2019 followed by IGNOU exam results.

  • Result: IGNOU Exam result 2019 will be announced on 25th June 2019 (tentative).

  • IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 Important dates provide the candidate with the schedule of the examination. It helps the candidates to stay updated with the ongoing and upcoming events regarding the admission process. 


IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 Eligibility Criteria 

  • Age Limit: There will be no age limit restriction in IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 exam, candidates of any age can apply to the exam.

  • Qualification: Candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline with 50 % marks for general category and 45 % for reserved category. Candidates holding professional degrees like Engineering, Chartered Accountancy (ICAI), medicine,etc., can also apply. Once the IGNOU exam results are out, applicants must produce the necessary documents as proof of graduation to the university.

  • Reservation facility: There is some relaxation (up to 5%) to the candidates belonging to communities like the Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes(SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and the physically handicapped as per the norms of The Government of India.

IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 Admit Card

  • Credentials: Candidates should enter credentials like application number and date of birth in order to download IGNOU OPEN MAT admit card 2019.

  • Issuance: The admit card is usually issued after two to three weeks after the submission of the application forms.

NOTE: The candidates are required to carry the admit card on the date of the examination, disobedience of which may result in denial of permission to take up the entrance exam.  


IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 Exam Pattern

  • Exam Pattern: IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 exam pattern exam pattern includes four sections, that is, General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning. 

  • Duration: Candidates will get 3 hours to complete the papers for 200 marks.

  • Negative Marking: There is no negative marking.

  • Nature of questions: The questions in the examination paper will be of objective type questions.

  NOTE: The candidates will have to mark their answers on an OMR sheet provided to them.


IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 Syllabus

  • Topics: The exam topics of IGNOU OPEN MAT 2019 Syllabus exam includes General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning. 

  • General Awareness: This section tests the knowledge of the candidate regarding current affairs, general knowledge, history of India, politics, and economics.

  • English Language: This section tests the skills and command of the candidate over the language. It also tests the fluency of the candidate in the language. 

  • Quantitative Aptitude: This section tests the numerical ability and problem-solving skills of the candidate.

  • Logical Reasoning: This section tests the capability of candidates to draw conclusions, make meaningful judgments and justify them.

  • Sections: There are four different sections which include 200 objective type questions carry 1marks each.

  • Declaration: IGNOU OPEN MAT 2019 Results will be published on the official website.

  • Credentials: Candidates should enter credentials like application number and date of birth in order to download IGNOU exam results 2019.

  • Factor affecting the results: The results are based on various factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, reservation criteria, sectional cut off, etc. 
  • The candidates who qualify in the entrance tests will proceed with the admission procedure.

Q: Can the Name/Surname be changed after the candidate is admitted into the university?

For making change of Name/ Surname, the candidates are required to submit Marriage Certificate, Gazette Notification, in original, reflecting the change of name/ surname, affidavit, in original, on non-judicial Stamp Paper with 1st Class Magistrate specifying the change in the name and Original copy of notification in a daily newspaper notifying the change of name. The candidates need to pay INR 400 through Demand Draft.

IGNOU OPEN MAT 2019 Eligibility

Candidates need to fulfil the following criteria before applying IGNOU OPENMAT 2019:

  • Graduate degree: The candidate must have completed a minimum of a three-year graduate degree from any recognized university with 50 percent.

  • Reserved Categories: The candidates who are belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, widow, Kashmiri migrants and physically handicapped categories; the minimum marks at graduation level is 45 percent.

  • Citizenship:  Not only Indian students but foreign students are also eligible to sit and take up the IGNOU OPENMAT 2019 exam.

Foreign nationals can also apply for OPENMAT 2019:

  • Foreign students: Foreign students residing in India and having a valid student visa for the minimum duration of the program are eligible to seek admission in IGNOU programs and the fee at par with foreign students (Details of fee structure may be obtained from International Division).

  • Admissions: Admission of foreign students residing in India will be processed by the International Division of the University after ensuring their antecedents from the Ministry of External Affairs/Ministry of Human Resource Development.
