Indira Gandhi National Open University, [IGNOU] New Delhi was established in the year 1985, by an Act of Parliament. It offers high-quality teaching to its students through the open and distance learning mode [ODL]. The University began by offering only two academic programs i.e Diploma in Distance Education and Diploma in Management. The University provides innovative and need-based programs at different levels, to all those who require them.

The university aims at providing access to higher education to all segments of society and uses a variety of media and the latest technology in imparting education. The mission of the university is to provide an intelligent and flexible system of education to meet the challenges of access and equity and work towards the development of a knowledgeable society. The university trains the faculty members in interactive multimedia and online teaching and learning and attracts the best talent - to improve productivity and quality of courses, and to provide effective services to learners. 

IGNOU University Delhi is the largest university in the world and has a global presence with more than 4 million students. The IGNOU enrollment number includes the sum total of all the students across various can off-campus study centres. It acts as a center of national resources and serves to promote and maintain standards of distance education in India. The IGNOU university courses cover various relevant streams. It provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate levels. Moreover, it offers a Diploma in multiple disciplines such as Diploma in Management, Diploma in BPO Finance & Accounting, etc. The IGNOU Admission is based on the eligibility criteria. The candidates can also re-register for some of the courses by filling the IGNOU re registration form within a time specified by the University.

IGNOU online facilities cater to the needs of distance learning students with Virtual Classes. It provides a complete online experience from registration to certification. eGyankosh is a National Digital Repository to share and store the learning materials which help the ODL Students. Gyandarshan and Gyandhara webcast programs are also telecasted.

IGNOU registration is one of the divisions on the college website which successfully and effectively maintains the database of approximately 3 million active students. IGNOU Courses are offered overseas also. The IGNOU registration details and status can be checked online. It conducts exams twice a year, in December & June and the IGNOU exam date will be published on the official website. The students then need to fill the IGNOU online exam form wherein they have to select the program code and examination centre code. School of Agriculture:

School of Agriculture [SOA] was established in the year 2005 at IGNOU to provide agricultural education through distance mode and to turn the rural unemployed youth to first-rate agricultural entrepreneurs and agri-business managers of tomorrow. The courses offered under the school of agriculture are as mentioned below.

  • It offers a doctorate program in Dairy Science & Technology and PHDAGE.
  • It offers a PD and Advance Certificate course.
  • It provides various Diploma courses like DDT, DFPT, DWM, etc.

School of Education:

School of Education [SOE] is one of the first schools to be established in IGNOU, it carries out academic activities addressing education as a field of knowledge and an area of practice. SOE is mandated to offer academic programmes in education as an area of knowledge and a field of professional practice. The courses offered by the school is as mentioned below.

  • It offers a doctorate in Education (PHDEDU).
  • It provides PG courses like MA (Distance Education), Master of Arts (Education), Master of Education (M.Ed) and Master of Arts in Adult Education (MAAE).

The Indira Gandhi National Open University, [IGNOU] New Delhi is granted the authority to confer degrees by Clause 5(1)(iii) of the IGNOU Act 1985. IGNOU is also recognised as a Central University by the University Grants Commission of India. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognises IGNOU conferred degrees as on par with the degrees conferred by its members and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) recognises the Master of Computer Applications and Master of Business Administration program of IGNOU.
