The JEE Mains is arranged mainly for admissions to the engineering, architecture and planning courses at the undergraduate level. JEE Mains Updated Exam Pattern
NTA has revised the exam pattern from 2021 onwards. There is negative marking for MCQ type questions. 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer, and four marks is awarded for the correct answer. Although, there is no negative marking for numerical answers. The revised exam pattern is as follows:

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria
Students have to qualify the minimum JEE Main eligibility criteria. The NTA declares the JEE Mains criteria. Anyone failing to meet the eligibility is not considered for admission. The following are the mandatory requirements:
- Date of Birth (Although the officials set no age limit)
- Completed 10+2 examination
- Minimum 75% marks in aggregate for general students and 65% marks for reserved quota students.
- The year of passing should be 2019, 2020 if appearing for the 2021 exam.
- Candidates can try applying for the exam for three back-to-back cycles.

JEE Main Cutoff Factors
A large pool of candidates appears every year for the JEE Main examination. The conducting committee and the institutes organizing the JEE Main mainly set the cutoff. However, certain institutes like the IIT's have a high cutoff. The cutoffs are based on the following factors:
- The total number of candidates appearing for the exam.
- The overall achievement of each candidate.
- The total number of seats open.
- The hardness level of a specific exam.

JEE Main Results
The JEE Main results are declared after the successful completion of four sessions. NTA announces the result through their website. For checking the results, candidates should follow the simple steps mentioned below:
- As the first step, a candidate must go to the official site of JEE Mains (jeemain.nta.nic.in.).
- Then, find the JEE Mains result link and click on it.
- Candidates must choose the examination session for which they appeared.
- Once done, candidates need to enter data such as their application number, their birth date.
- Then enter the security verification pin.
- Next, click 'submit.'
- Next, verify the information displayed and, if completed, download the scorecard presented.
- It is considered wise for the candidates to keep a proof of the scorecard or get a printout as forthcoming evidence.

Should I Join Newer NIT’s?
Students often suffer from this dilemma whether they should join the newer NIT's or wait for their chance for admissions into old NIT's. One thing that is to be kept in mind is no NIT is less prestigious. Although the newer NIT's may take a little time to develop the reputation, it holds the same value as any other old NIT. The degrees offered will yield the same value. The only problem that new NIT faces is that they may not have a permanent campus yet and are run through a temporary campus.
