Calcutta University is one of the oldest institutions in India, which was established on 24th January  1857. The University is located in Kolkata, West Bengal. Currently, there are 151 colleges and 21 institutes affiliated with Calcutta University. In India, it is ranked as a five-star university and accredited with an "A" grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC). Also, the university has a total of 14 campuses. It was ranked 8th as a state university in NIRF 2022 Rankings and 15th in the overall category.

Calcutta University offers admissions to various UG, PG, and Doctoral courses. Various subjects like chemical engineering, psychology, English, Zoology, food science, and international relations are offered at the university. CU will release the applications for M.Tech admissions soon. CU is a part of the United Nations Academic Impact and has five Nobel laureates associated with it, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Ronald Ross, CV Raman, Amartya Sen, and Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee.

Calcutta University Admission

Calcutta University admission 2023 offers an extensive list of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Admission will take place in June and July of 2023, students who are interested in taking admission to the university will have to register online on the university admission portal. The selection process for undergraduate programs is based on merit/scores obtained in the qualifying examination.

Calcutta University Eligibility Criteria

The university has set eligibility criteria for every course and based on which the candidates are admitted into that particular course. 

B.Com Eligibility Criteria 

  • An applicant who has passed 10+2 in commerce stream or any equivalent with English subject and from a recognized board.

B.Tech Eligibility Criteria 

  • An applicant who has passed 10+2 in PCM with at least 60% marks in total from a recognized board for admission can apply.

M.Sc Eligibility Criteria 

  • An applicant who has passed their B.Sc degree or equivalent in a related discipline from a recognized university is eligible.

Calcutta University Cut Off

Calcutta University releases cut off for admissions to the UG and PG courses. Candidates applying for B.Tech courses at university must appear for WBJEE, and candidates applying for MBA may appear for CAT to become eligible. In 2021, the cut off for WBJEE was in the range of 186-552 for B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, 767-1599 for B.Tech Chemical Engineering, and 507-766 for B.Tech Information and Technology. The merit list for 2022 is yet to be released.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The eligibility criteria for the course were to pass 12 with a minimum of 50% marks, and it was grade based admission process.  No entrance exams were given.  Cut off was 70% for the course.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The basic eligibility for this course is the completion of 10+2 or its equivalent exam in commerce from the recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks score. However, the minimum marks that the college requires to offer admission in this course may vary from college to college.   I have not engaged in any entrance examination  This college asks for the best of four subject marks where the day batch has a cutoff of approximately 90 to 93% and for the morning batch it has to be 94% in the best four subjects.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The eligibity criteria for a candidate aspiring to enroll for MA in English in 2010 was a cut off of 55% in graduation. For a candidate to take up Masters in English from the University of Calcutta, he/she must hold specialization in English Literature or Comparative Literature or Communicative English in the Bachelors Degree. However, now after graduating with a BA(Honours) degree, applications forms are to be filled up and submitted post which entrance examinations are conducted to further shortlist candidates for the course.
