The UGC NET exam is the computer-based exam that was conducted nationwide from June 20-28, 2019. There are a total of 81 Subjects in the UGC NET exam for which more than 9.5 lakh candidates applied and appeared across 237 test centers in India.

How to select Subjects?
The University Grants Commission's National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is conducted to find the qualified candidates for the positions of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor. The exam consists of two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Paper 1: The syllabus for Paper 1 is common for all and will be based on reasoning ability, general awareness, comprehension and divergent thinking. They are generally intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate.
Paper 2: The syllabus for Paper 2 is is based on the subject that the candidate chooses. The candidates can choose a subject from an extensive list of 81 subjects.
All the candidates need to answer both the papers to be qualified in the UGC NET exam.

While filling up the application form make sure that you select the subject that you have taken in your post graduation.
- The candidates with a Master's Degree in Geography (with specialization in Population Studies) or Mathematics/ Statistics are also eligible to appear in the subject 'Population Studies' (code 15).
- The candidates with a Master's Degree in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences are eligible to appear in the subject 'Woman Studies' (code 74).
Based on your selection of subject paper, your exam date and exam slot will be allotted to you. The details about your exam center, date and shift will be notified on your UGC NET hall ticket and also on your registered NTA account.
UGC NET Updated Syllabus
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the syllabus after taking over the authority of the UGC NET exam. The modified syllabus that was applicable from the June Session of 2019 has been notified through a public notice on the NTA website.
Candidates should be aware of the syllabus before appearing for the exam. Syllabi for all the NET subjects can be downloaded from the official UGC website. Go through the syllabus of the subject you selected to make sure that you cover all of the topics.

Marking scheme: A correct answer will be awarded 2 marks and there is no negative marking for any unanswered or incorrect answers. If a question for any reason is found to be incorrect, the benefit of marks will be given to only those candidates who attempted the question.
Candidates should be judicious while selecting the subject during the registration process. Once the online submission is successful a candidate cannot withdraw it.
