B.Tech Biotechnology is a four-year undergraduate programme. According to Britannica, “Biotechnology is a science-driven industry that uses living organisms and molecular biology to generate or run processes for drugs and therapeutics relevant to healthcare (such as DNA fingerprinting).” In the fields of medicine and pharmaceuticals, biotechnology is best known for its increasingly important role. It is also used in areas such as genomics, food production and biofuel production. The course falls under the umbrella of B.Tech.
B.Tech Biotechnology course duration is 4 years. The course covers subjects like mathematics, engineering mechanics, biochemistry, biomaterial and artificial organs, etc. Job scope is there in both the private and government sector.

B.Tech Biotechnology eligibility criteria is similar as that of other B.Tech programmes. However, it may vary depending on the college. According to the eligibility criteria for B.Tech Biotechnology, aspirants must have completed 10+2 from a recognised board with subjects like physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Also, the aspirant must have studied English as a compulsory language. The minimum age to apply for this course is 17 years.
The B.Tech Biotechnology admission process involves a set of steps. Getting admission for B.Tech Biotechnology requires an aspirant to go through a fixed procedure, including group discussion, written entrance exams, etc. The admission process differs from college to college, but the general procedure is given below:
The first step in this process is filling up the entrance exam's admission form online or offline by attaching all the documents, including the Aadhaar card, voter ID card, domicile, mark sheet of 10th 12th, and the final year graduation mark sheet.
The cut-off marks will be announced after the results are published. Then, the aspirants who have cleared the cut-off will attend the online counselling. Applicants would have to provide options of the colleges where they want to take admission during online counselling. Based on their ranks, the counselling body will delegate seats to the candidates.
Candidates interested in learning concepts related to applied biology and chemical engineering can pursue B.Tech Biotechnology courses. Students who wish to study living organisms and environmental systems can pursue this course. A candidate can pursue B.Tech Biotechnology after completion of their 10+2 with a minimum of 75% in the science stream.
