 About KVPY Exam

KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) is an Olympiad (scholarship programme) started in 1999 by the Ministry of Science and Technology to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue a career in research. The KVPY program aims to help students realize their potential and ensure that the best scientific talent minds are groomed for research and development.

KVPY Eligibility Criteria

Students studying in class 11th, 12th, and 1st year of graduation are allowed to sit in the KVPY 2024 Olympiad exam. Students who are pursuing their exams from any open school or university are not eligible for the exam. Eligibility criteria for students studying in class 11th, 12th, and 1st year of graduation are different for each of them.

Basic criteria for all three of them are given below.

  • Students from classes 11th and 12th must be studying in any school affiliated with the Indian-recognized education board. If the student is currently studying in the 1st year of graduation, the college must be affiliated with a recognized university.
  • Participants must be Indian citizens.
  • As the KVPY exam 2024 is specially made for science students, participants must be studying in a field related to science only.

KVPY Registration Process

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna registration can be processed online through the KVPY website. There is no other mode for the KVPY 2024 registration. The participant has to fill in their academic details and personal details, choose the test centre, and upload photographs, signatures, and other required documents before the deadline and the KVPY exam date for the academic year 2024.

KVPY Registration Fee

Students must note that the KVPY 2024 registration fee can only be paid through the KVPY portal. The KVPY 2024 registration fee can be paid through credit card, debit card, or net banking. Other means of payment are not allowed. KVPY registration fee for general and OBC categories is INR 1250 and for SC/ST/PWD is INR 625. The refund of the registration fee is not allowed in the KVPY 2024-24 Olympiad examination.

KVPY Syllabus

KVPY has no prescribed syllabus, but the questions will be based on the syllabus of 11, 12, and the first year of B.Stat., B.Math., B.Sc, B.S., Int. M.Sc. or MS. All questions are compulsory in the SA stream. Whereas in SB/SX, students can attempt any three sections from part 1 and any two sections from part 2.

KVPY Exam Pattern

KVPY exam consists of a total of 80 questions that a student has to complete in 160 minutes. The KVPY 2024 question paper is divided into two parts. In part one, each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark, and for every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. In part two, for each correct answer, participants will be awarded 2 marks, and 0.50 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

KVPY sample papers are framed in a way to assist the student in understanding the complete exam pattern and its difficulty level. KVPY Admit Card

KVPY admit card 2024 will be available on the KVPY website. To download the KVPY admit card, candidates have to visit the KVPY website and enter their application number and date of birth to download the admit card. If there is any kind of error in the KVPY Olympiad admit card, the participant should immediately contact KVPY via mail or post.

KVPY Result 2024

Referring to the previous year's results dates, IISC will declare the KVPY 2024 results by April 2024. Candidates need to enter their roll number, school code, and centre code to check their results. To keep track of the KVPY 2024 results, candidates must be in touch with the official website.

Objectives of KVPY Exam

KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) is an Olympiad (scholarship program) started in 1999 by the Ministry of Science and Technology to encourage students to study basic sciences to take up research careers in science.

The objectives of the KVPY exam are as follows.

  • The program aims to encourage motivated and talented students to pursue a career in research.
  • This program aims to help the students realize their potential and ensure that the best scientific talent minds are groomed for research and development.
  • Generous fellowships and contingencys are granted to the selected students up to the pre PhD level, or five years, whichever is earlier.
  • Besides, summer camps for the KVPY Fellows are organized in the country's most prestigious research and educational institutions.
  • The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal agency of the Indian government, has entrusted the overall responsibility for organising and running the KVPY Program to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and has also set up a management committee and National Advisory Committee (NAC) for overseeing its implementation.
  • Selection is made from those students studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate program in Basic Sciences, namely B.Sc, BS, B.Stat, B.Math, Int. M.Sc, or MS in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Special groups/committees are set up at IISc to screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test in various countries.
  • Students, based on their performance in the aptitude test, are shortlisted, and they are called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure.
  • In order to receive a fellowship, both aptitude tests and interview marks are considered.
  • Generous fellowships are provided up to the pre-PhD level to the selected KVPY Fellows.
  • A core committee looks after the day-to-day as well as academic aspects of the KVPY program.

Key Changes in KVPY 2024

Due to COVID-19, KVPY has introduced a one-time measure in which students who cleared the 10th standard board examination and enrolled in the 11th standard (Science subjects) during the academic year 2024 are eligible to appear for the aptitude test.

Details: Students eligible for provisional KVPY fellowship from about category must submit a study certificate of class XI. Their fellowship will only be activated if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences mentioned by KVPY.

Students are also invited to the National Science (Vijyoshi) Camp, where KVPY will meet their travel expenses and local hospitality.
