About AIBE Exam

The full form of the AIBE Exam is the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) and is also known as the All India Bar Council Exam. AIBE national-level entrance examination is conducted to assess the capability of an advocate who wants to practice law in India. The Bar Council of India (BCI) has the authority to conduct the All India Bar Examination (AIBE).

AIBE Exam Information

The exam was conducted in 22 Vernacular languages, and candidates can select any one language according to their preference. The candidates who clear AIBE XVII (17) 2023 are awarded the Certificate of Practice. AIBE XVII (17) 2023 was a pen-and-paper based test and consisted of 100 questions. The question paper was an objective type and open book. Candidates will be awarded +1 point for every correct answer with no negative marking for wrong answers. State Bar Council

Candidates have to be enrolled in their respective State Bar Council. They also have to possess the Advocate Enrollment Card as issued by the council of the corresponding state and are required to submit relevant evidence to enrol for AIBE XVII (17) 2023 examination. Candidates are eligible to apply if they are enrolled as an advocate under Section 24 of the Advocates Act 1961.

Age and Attempts Limit

AIBE Exam 2023 had 100 objective-type questions and was conducted in the pen-and-paper mode. Students will be awarded +1 point for every correct answer. AIBE XVII 2023 revised answer key was released on the official website on Feb 10, 2023, after correcting the previously released answer key. The Bar Council of India released the answer key after the exam on Feb 5, 2023. BCI has withdrawn the answer key link because answer keys differed from all the sets of question papers.

Is there any age limit for the AIBE?

No. There are no age limits for the AIBE XVII 2023 exam. However, one must take the exam within 2 years after completing their law degree in order to practice.

Is the AIBE XVII 2023 exam compulsory to practice law in India?

Yes, according to BAR Council of India (BCI) any law graduate needs to clear AIBE in the two-year window after he/she gets his/her Law degree in order to practice law in India.

I was enrolled as an advocate in the State Bar Council in 2008, will I be required to give the exam in order to continue my practice?

No. Only candidates who have graduated in Law in and after the 2009-10 batch will need to take this exam to be able to practice.

What is the minimum percentage criteria in the law course required in order to appear for AIBE XVII 2023?

There's no percentage cut off for graduation required to appear for AIBE XVII 2023. You can appear for this exam as soon as you complete your degree if you wish to practice as a lawyer. 

How many times can I give the AIBE XVII 2023 Exam?

There is no limit on the number of attempts for the exam. But you must attempt the exam within two years of graduating with a law degree in order to practice.
