AIBE certificate of practice 2025 is presented to all the candidates who successfully qualify for the All India Bar Examination. Certificate of Practice, also known as CoP, acts as a guarantor to all practising lawyers.
The lawyers who started practising law without passing the AIBE cannot obtain the certificate. From 2009-2010 onwards, all the candidates who qualified the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) are required to obtain this certificate for practising.
Further, the certificate must have been obtained within two years of qualifying for the examination.

AIBE certificate of practice 2025 is awarded to all the AIBE-qualified candidates. The Bar Council of India (BCI) recognises this certificate. The certificate also ensures that all the benefits are offered to practising lawyers.

Who Can Apply for AIBE CoP 2025?
Candidates who have scored 40% marks from the general category and 35% from the reserved category can apply for the CoP. Here are some others who can apply:
- Advocates who have enrolled for the AIB.
- Practising advocates who are enrolled but whose names were transferred to the non-participant list.
- Senior advocates.

To obtain an AIBE certificate of practice, 2025 candidates must appear for the AIBE examination. The steps must be followed:
- Candidates must register themselves with the State Bar Council.
- Fill up the form of AIBE online.
- Appear for the AIBE examination.
- Score the minimum cutoff marks required for the AIBE examination.

Candidates have to download or buy the form from their respective state councils. The steps to register with the State Bar Council are as follows:

Candidates can apply for the certificate of practice by submitting their request through the state councils.
In 2021, the bar council launched AIBESCOPE, a smartphone application that allows applicants to receive a digital copy of their COP until a hard copy is supplied to them.

Here are some of the guidelines that lawyers have to maintain to conduct their duties.
- Act in a dignified manner
- Respect the court
- Not communicating in private
- Refuse to act in an illegal manner towards the opposition
- Refuse to represent clients who insist on unfair means
- Appear in proper dress code
- Refuse to appear in front of relations
- Not to wear bands or gowns in public places
- Not represent establishments of which he is a member
- Not appear in matters of pecuniary interest
- Not to stand as surety for the client

Rules on an Advocate’s Duty Towards the Client
- Bound to accept briefs
- Not withdraw from service
- Not appear in matters where he is a witness
- Full and frank disclosure to the client
- Uphold the interest of the client
- Not suppress material or evidence
- Not disclose the communications between the client and himself
- An advocate should not be a party to stir up or instigate litigation.
- An advocate should not act on the instructions of any person other than their client or the client’s authorised agent.
- Not charged depending on the success of matters
- Not receive interest in an actionable claim
- Not a bid or purchase of property arising from a legal proceeding
- Not bid or transfer property arising from a legal proceeding
- Do not adjust fees against personal liability
- An advocate should not misuse or take advantage of the confidence reposed in him by his client.
- Keep proper accounts
- Divert money from accounts
- Intimate the client on amounts
- Adjust fees after tthe ermination of proceedings
- Provide a copy of the accounts
- An advocate shall not enter into arrangements whereby funds in his hands are converted into loans.
- Not to lend money to his client
- Not appear for the opposite parties
