ICSE Exam Marking Scheme

ICSE exam paper has three groups. Group A has four compulsory subjects, Group B has two optional subjects, and Group C has one optional subject. Group A and Group B will be based on an 80% + 20% marking scheme, and Group C will be based on a 50% + 50% marking scheme.

A) English Language (Paper 1)

This paper consists of sections like story writing, fill in the blanks, composition writing, E-mail writing. The exam paper will be 80 marks. However, 20 marks will be rewarded as an internal score.

B) Literature in English (Paper-2)

This paper Consists of sections like Drama, Poetry, Prose. The exam paper will be 80 marks. However, 20 marks will be rewarded as an internal score.

Paper 1: English Language (3 hours) – 100 marks
Paper 2: Literature in English (3 hours) – 100 marks 

Types of Assessment

a) Listening Skills

A passage of about 350 words is read aloud, twice, the first time at normal reading speed (about 110 words a minute) and the next time at a slower speed. Students may make brief notes during the readings. They then answer objective-type questions based on the passage on the paper provided.

A passage of about 500 words will be provided.

A question that elicits the main ideas of all or part of the passage. This question will consist of two parts:

(i) In the first part, the candidate will be required to list the main points as directed, in point form. Sentences/phrases/clauses will be accepted, as long as the meaning is conveyed. In this part, marks will be awarded for Content.

(ii) In the second part of the question, the candidate will be required to frame these points in a summary (keeping to a word limit), in a coherent manner. In this part, marks will be awarded for expression and the candidate’s ability to summarise the points clearly in complete sentences. Marks will be deducted for linguistic errors.

PAPER I –THEORY – 70 MARKS

Part I (20 marks):

This part will consist of compulsory short answer questions, testing knowledge, application, and skills relating to the entire syllabus.

Part II (50 marks):

This part will be divided into three sections, A, B, and C. Candidates will be required to answer two questions out of three from Section A (each carrying 10 marks) and two questions out of three from Sections B (each carrying 10 marks) and two questions out of three from Section C (each carrying 5 marks). Therefore, a total of six questions are to be answered in Part II.

PAPER - I (THEORY) – 80 Marks

Part 1 (20 marks)

will consist of compulsory short answer questions testing knowledge, application, and skills relating to elementary/fundamental aspects of the entire syllabus.

Part II (60 marks)

will consist of eight questions out of which candidates will be required to answer five questions, each carrying 12 marks.

ISC Syllabus 2021 Business Studies

The exam duration for this subject is for three hours and 100 marks.

Part 1: (30 marks) will consist of compulsory short answer questions testing knowledge, application, and skills relating to elementary/fundamental aspects of the entire syllabus.

Part 2: (70 marks) will consist of seven questions out of which candidates will be required to answer five questions, each carrying 14 marks.
