The post matric scholarship scheme for minorities is provided by the Ministry of Minority Affairs [MOMA]. Students belonging to the minority community and studying from class XI to the PhD level can apply to the scholarship. The MOMA will cover the admission fee, tuition fee and provide maintenance allowance to the selected students. The aim is to uplift the minority students from economically weaker sections and provide them with an opportunity to pursue higher education by offering financial aid through the post matric scholarship scheme for minorities. 

Around 30% of the scholarship is reserved for female candidates. If the allocated percentage of the pre-matric scholarship scheme for minorities is not distributed to the female candidates, it is transferred to eligible male candidates. Besides the post matric scholarship scheme for minority communities, the MOMA offers pre-matric scholarships and merit cum means scholarships for professional and technical courses

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities Eligibility Criteria

The department of MOMA under the government of India has initiated the post matric scholarship schemes for minorities. Therefore, candidates from class XI belonging to a minority community such as Christian, Muslim, Jain, Buddhism, Sikh, and Parsi can apply to this scholarship. The eligibility criteria for the post matric scholarship scheme for minority students are as follows:

  • The candidates should be pursuing class XI and above at recognised institutions.
  • They must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the previous qualifying examination.
  • Their family income should not exceed INR 2,00,000 per annum.

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities Benefits

The MOMA will cover the students' admission and tuition fees. In addition, they will offer maintenance allowance for both day scholars and hostellers. The post matric scholarship scheme for minorities amount will differ for each class level. The benefits of the post matric scholarship scheme for minority students are as follows:

Maintenance Allowance

Given below are the details of the post matric scholarship scheme for minorities amount towards maintenance allowance for day scholars and hostellers:

Classes XI and XII
  • The hostellers will receive INR 380 per month.
  • The government will pay INR 230 per month to the day scholars.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree
  • The hostellers will receive a post matric scholarship scheme for minorities amount of INR 570 per month.
  • The day scholars pursuing a UG or PG degree will receive INR 300 per month as maintenance allowance.
M.Phil and PhD
  • The M.Phil and P.hD. hostellers will receive INR 1,200 per month.
  • However, the day scholars will receive INR 550 per month under the post matric scholarship scheme for minorities.

How to Apply for the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities?

The candidates can apply for the post matric scholarship scheme for minorities 2023 online. The first time applicants should register before applying for the scholarship. After registration, they will obtain login credentials. The candidates can apply for the post matric scholarship scheme for minorities after logging into the NSP portal. The stepwise process for the scholarship are as follows:

  1. The candidates should visit the National Scholarship Portal.
  2. They should register by clicking on the "New Registration" button.
  3. Next, read the terms and conditions and proceed by clicking on "Continue".
  4. The candidates should read the scholarship parameters related to the scholarship being applied for.
  5. They should fill in all the particulars, including personal and bank details.
  6. Select the aadhar or bank account number as an identification parameter and click on "Register".
  7. The candidates will receive an OTP on their registered mobile phone number.
  8. Next, they should log in to the portal using the OTP and fill up the rest of the details.
  9. The candidates should note down the application Id and password for future reference.

Post Matric Scholarship scheme is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme and performed through State Government and UT administration. The Scheme grants financial aid to the Scheduled Caste students studying at post matriculation or post-secondary stage to equip them to complete their education.
