Under the state government of Punjab, the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC) have launched several schemes on the Dr Ambedkar scholarship portal Punjab government. The domiciles of Punjab belonging to the SC and OBC categories can apply to the Dr BR Ambedkar scholarship schemes. The state government aims to provide financial aid to deserving students from economically weaker backgrounds for higher studies. In addition to Fr Ambedkar scholarship schemes, several other Punjab scholarships are available to students from different classes and reserved categories. Interested students should submit the applications within Dr Ambedkar scholarship 2021 last date, which is November 30th, 2021.

Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The Punjab government provides Dr Ambedkar scholarship to the economically backward SC/ OBC category students domiciled in Punjab. Candidates who have cleared class X to those pursuing a postdoctoral degree can apply to the Dr Ambedkar scholarship. The other eligibility criteria for the post-matric scheme for SC and OBC students under Dr Ambedkar scholarship 2021 are as follows:

  1. The annual family income of SC students should not exceed INR 2,50,000.
  2. Applicants should belong to SC and should be Indian National.
  3. Students who shift their course of study after completion of one or more levels of education are not eligible to apply for the Dr Ambedkar scholarship. 
  4. Applicants pursuing postgraduate medical courses are eligible for the Dr Ambedkar scholarship 2021, provided they do not practice medicine.
  5. Candidates pursuing distance learning/ correspondence are also eligible to apply.
  6. The student should have passed class 10 and should be enrolled in a post-matric or post-secondary course from a recognized institution.
  7. The student applying for the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar scholarship should not receive benefits from any other scholarships.
  8. Applicants receiving pre-examination coaching with financial assistance from the state/ central government are not eligible for the Dr Ambedkar scholarship government of Punjab program.

Post-Matric Dr Ambedkar Scholarship for OBC Students

  • Applicants should belong to OBC and should be Indian nationals.
  • The annual family income of OBC students should not exceed INR 1,00,000.
  • Only two boys from the same family can apply to the Dr Ambedkar scholarship Punjab. However, this rule does not apply to the girl candidates.
  • The candidates should have passed class 10 and enrolled in a post-matric or post-secondary course from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants pursuing postgraduate medical courses are eligible to apply provided they do not practice during the course period.
  • Candidates pursuing distance learning/ correspondence are also eligible to apply for the Dr Ambedkar scholarship.
  • Students receiving pre-examination coaching with financial assistance from the State/ Central Government are not eligible for the stipend during the coaching program.
  • The student applying for this scheme should not be getting a scholarship/ stipend from any other sources.

Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Rewards and Benefits

The government provides Dr Ambedkar scholarship amounts to deserving students and enables them to complete their higher studies. They will disburse the Dr Ambedkar scholarship amount directly to the scholar's bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The detailed scholarship benefits are explained below:

Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Amount for SC Students

  1. Thesis typing/ printing charges of up to INR 1600 to research scholars.
  2. Study tour charges of up to INR 1600 per annum for students studying professional and technical courses.
  3. Persons with disabilities get a transport allowance of INR 160 per month, an escort allowance of INR 160 per month, Special pay of INR 160 per month, and an additional allowance of INR 240 per month.
Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Eligible Course Groups Reward and Benefits

Group 1- UG/ PG level courses like MPhil/Ph.D./ Post-doctoral Medicine research/ Engineering and allied courses/ Veterinary and allies classes/ Fashion technology/ Agriculture/ Management/ Commercial Pilot Licence/ PG diploma courses in leadership/ Pharmacy/ CA/ ICWA/ CS/ CFA/ LLM

  • Book allowance of INR 1200.
  • Reader allowance of INR 240.
  • Hostellers receive an amount of INR 1200 per month for ten months.
  • Day scholars receive an amount of INR 550 per month for ten months.

Group 2- UG/ PG courses leading to degree/ diploma/ certificate in Pharmacy/ Nursing/ LLB/ BFS/ Mass Communication/ Hotel Management/ Financial Services for which minimum level of study is Class 12 and other PG courses such as MA/ M.Sc/ M.Com/ M.Ed.

  • Book allowance of INR 1200.
  • Reader allowance of INR 240.
  • Hostellers receive an amount of INR 820 per month for ten months.
  • Day scholars receive an amount of INR 530 per month for ten months.

Group 3- All courses not included in Group 1 and 2 leading to BA/ BSc/ BCom degree.

  • Book allowance of INR 1200.
  • Reader allowance of INR 200.
  • Hostellers receive an amount of INR 570 per month for ten months.
  • Day scholars receive an amount of INR 300 per month for ten months.

Group 4- All non-degree post-matric classes with the minimum level of study being Class 10 such as Class 11/ 12/ both general and professional/ ITI/ 3-year Diploma/ Polytechnic etc.

  • Book allowance of INR 1200.
  • Reader allowance of INR 160.
  • Hostellers receive an amount of INR 380 per month for ten months.
  • Day scholars receive an amount of INR 230 per month for ten months.

Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Amount for OBC Students

  • Thesis typing/ printing charges of up to INR 1000 to research scholars.
  • Study tour charges of up to INR 900 per annum for students studying professional and technical courses.

  • Reader allowance of INR 130.
  • Hostellers receive an amount of INR 400 per month for ten months.
  • Day scholars receive an amount of INR 210 per month for ten months.

Group 4- All non-degree post-matric classes with the minimum level of study being Class 10 such as Class 11/ 12/ both general and professional/ ITI/ 3-year Diploma/ Polytechnic etc.

  • Book allowance of INR 900.
  • Reader allowance of INR 90.
  • Hostellers receive an amount of INR 260 per month for ten months.
  • Day scholars receive an amount of INR 160 per month for ten months.

Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Application Process

The application process for the Dr Ambekar scholarship is online. The candidates should duly fill in the Dr Ambedkar scholarship form online obtained from the portal. Interested applicants should apply within the stipulated time to avoid rejections. The detailed application procedure is given below:

  1. Applicants should visit the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Portal.
  2. As a new user, the student should click on the 'Student Registration' tab to register on the scholarship portal. A User ID and password is generated on successful registration.
  3. To complete Dr Ambedkar scholarship portal login, the applicants should click on the 'Registered Students' Login' and provide the User ID and password.
  4. They should click on the 'Apply for Scholarship' to access Dr Ambedkar scholarship form.
  5. The application form has to be filled in with all the required details.
  6. The applicant should check for correctness of all the details entered and then click on the 'Register Scholarship Application form' to submit the Dr. Ambedkar application form.
  7. The candidate has to click on the left side tab of the application form to upload all the documents needed to verify the candidates' credentials.
  8. Finally, the applicant should take a printout of the submitted application and then submit it to the respective institute and all the attested supporting documents. 

Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Renewal Process

All applicants (both new and renewal applicants) interested in availing of the Dr Ambedkar scholarship should register themselves on the portal. They can obtain Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar scholarship online form on the official portal. Given below are the details of the renewal process:

  1. The renewal candidate has to visit the Dr Ambedkar scholarship portal and click on 'New Registration.
  2. They should enter the Dr Ambedkar scholarship login credentials which was previously used.
  3. The applicant should then click on the 'Renewal Application' tab for the current year.
  4. All personal details have to be entered and a new User ID and password are generated.
  5. The candidate should log in to the portal using the new credentials obtained.
  6. Dr BR Ambedkar scholarship form is displayed where the applicant should enter details like last years' merit score, attendance details, etc.
  7. They can update any other details if needed.
  8. The final step is to upload all the required documents and 'Submit' the renewal application form.
