IISER Eligibility Criteria Overview

Age
No age limit.
Qualification
Passed 12th in Science stream in 2017/ 2018. Marks score in 12th should be above the cut-off percentage as stipulated by IISER.
Reservation
5% relaxation in the cut-off percentage are provided to OBC and PwD categories. Cut-off percentage for SC/ ST/ Kashmiri Migrants (KM) category:- 55% .

IISER Eligibility Criteria 2019

  • We strongly advise you to go through all the factors of IISER 2019 eligibility criteria before filling the Application Form. The eligibility criteria for IISER Admission depends on the channel through which you are willing to apply. 

  • Result Awaited: Candidates those who are appearing for the 12th board's examination this year and are awaiting results can also apply. But they must upload the mark sheet before the deadline. 

  • Age Limit: IISER has not specified any upper age limit for any category of candidates to take the IISER entrance exam.

  • Nationality: Indian citizens, as well as citizens of foreign nations, can apply for IISER exam 2019. The candidates belonging to Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) category are also eligible for IISER 2019 admissions. Foreign students are also eligible to apply only under JEE Advanced channel.

  • Relaxation in marks: IISER 2019 offers relaxation in marks based on the category. If the candidate belongs to the reserved categories such as Physically Handicapped (PH), scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST) and other backward classes (BC), there is a relaxation of 5% marks in aggregate.

  • Only candidates with Indian citizenship are eligible to claim the relaxation and reserved seats under the reserved category. 

  • Minimum Educational Eligibility: Candidates belonging to the General/OBC - CL category must score marks equals to or above the #yearcut-off marks of the respective board, as decided by the IISER.

  • And, the candidates belonging to reserved category must have at least 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying exam without rounding off to satisfy eligibility criteria for IISER 2019. 

  • Compulsory Subjects: The candidates have must have passed 10+2 or equivalent, with prescribed cut-off marks, with Mathematics or Biology as a compulsory subject, from a recognized board or institution.

  • The 3 channels through which a candidate can apply for IISER 2019 are as follows:
    • SCB (State and Central Boards) Channel - IISER 2019 Aptitude Test, 

    • KVPY exam (Kishor Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) & 

    • JEE Advanced.

IISER 2019 Eligibility Criteria for Each Channel

KVPY Channel - Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates must have a valid KVPY fellowship commencing from the 2018-2019 session.

  • IISER 2019 Aptitude Test: Candidates with KVPY fellowship need not have to take the IISER aptitude test.

JEE Advanced Channel - Joint Entrance Examination Advanced: 

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates must qualify the JEE Advanced exam & secure a rank within 10,000 in Common Rank List (CRL).

  • Relaxation: For candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBCNC, SC, ST, PD), their rank should be within 10,000 ranks under the respective category.

  • IISER Aptitude Test 2019Candidates with a valid JEE Advanced rank/scorecard need not have to take the IISER aptitude test.

SCB Channel - State and Central Boards :

  • The candidates who apply under SCB Channel have to mandatorily take the IISER 2019 Aptitude Test, to be able to get admission. Before applying, candidates should make sure they satisfy the eligibility criteria.

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates must pass 10+2 examination with science stream(PCM) in 2019 or 2018.

  • Minimum Marks: Candidates have to secure marks equal or above the cut-off percentage in their respective boards to qualify for IISER 2019. 

  • Relaxation: There is 5% relaxation in qualifying marks for the OBC-NC & PwD category.

  • Cut-Off Percentage: For reserved SC/ST/KM category candidates, the cut-off percentage marks is 55% in 10+2 level for all boards.

  • To take admission under this channel you need to satisfy the cut off of the qualifying exam before taking the IISER Aptitude Test. The cut-off marks and the respective board in 2018 are listed below.
