Introduction to IISER Exam 2019

  • About IISER 2019: One of the 7 Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) conducts the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) every year for admissions to promote high-quality science education.

  • IISER is set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. There are seven IISER across India. IISER Aptitude Test 2019 will be conducted by IISER Bhopal.

  • IISER 2019 Admission: Admissions to IISER will be done through 3 Channels, which are highly competitive by the way; these 3 channels are:

    • SCB (State and Central Boards) Channel - IISER 2019 aptitude Test (IAT), 

    • KVPY exam (Kishor Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) & 

    • JEE Advanced.

  • Seat Reservation: 50% of the IISER seats will be allocated through KVPY and JEE-Advanced channels. The remaining 50% seats will be filled through the SCB channel, based on the marks obtained in the IISER Aptitude Test. Unfilled seats from KVPY and JEE channels will also be added to the SCB channel. 

  • Background: IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) is one of the renowned institutions in India, which offers education in the field of science & research. All the IISERs have been declared "Institutions of National Importance" by an Act of Parliament.

  • IISER 2019 Course: The IISER 2019 examination allows aspirants to pursue admissions to 5-year Integrated BS-MS dual degree program. And only IISER Bhopal offers a 4 year BS degree.

  • IISER 2019 Application Form: There are 3 channels or ways to apply for the IISER 2019 examination and each should be done separately through online mode.

  • Candidates can apply tthrough any of the exams; IISER aptitude test (Through SCB channel), KVPY and JEE Advanced exam. The official application form of IISER 2019 through SCB Channel will be available from the 21st April 2019.

  • IISER 2019 Campuses: IISER is located in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, or Tirupati. A new IISER has been announced to set up in Nagaland. The first IISER was established in 2006.

  • IISER Affiliation: The IISERs are autonomous institutions under the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), Government of India.

  • Enrollment: Every year, IISER accepts 1285 candidates to their colleges. The number of seats available in each IISER ranges from 100 to 260. You can apply to IISERs through more than one channels.

IISER 2019 News

  • Application: IISER 2019 application portal for admissions to all for the academic year will be opened in May 2019.
  • Mode of Paper: The IISER 2019 Aptitude Test will be conducted online mode i.e. the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

  • Application Fee Refund: If you apply for IISER through more than one channel then you can claim the refund by sending proof of payments to ask-jac2019@iiserb.ac.in. The refund will be processed once the admission process is over.

  • Fee Refund: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) will refund the Seat Acceptance Fees (SAF) of candidates who have withdrawn their candidature from the Institute.


IISER 2019 Important Dates

  • Registration: The IISER 2019 Aptitude test Application Form will be available on the official website from 21st April 2019. The last date to fill the application form via SCB channel is 8th May 2019.

  • Admit Card: Those who have applied for the IISER Aptitude test 2019 can download the IISER 2019 admit card from 30th May 2019 from the official website.

  • Counselling: Candidates who have qualified IISER 2019 Aptitude test and ranked, are eligible for the IISER counselling. The date of 2019 counselling will start from the 3rd July 2019 and will go on in multiple rounds, till all the seats are filled.

IISER 2019 Eligibility Criteria

  • Channel: The eligibility criteria of IISER 2019 may vary depending upon the exam you are writing. KVPY, SBC, and JEE Advanced are the 3 channels and the shortlisting process is different for every exam based on the difficulty level.

  • Age limit: The IISER has nowhere mentioned the upper age limit, for admission through any of the channels

  • Educational Qualification: The candidates have must have passed 10+2 or equivalent, with prescribed cut-off marks, with Mathematics or Biology as a compulsory subject, from a recognized board or institution.

  • Nationality: The candidate should be Indian national to apply for IISER. PIO & OCI candidates are also eligible to apply for IISER 2019 and are considered Indian citizens. Foreign students can also apply, but only through JEE Advanced channel.

  • Relaxation: There is 5% relaxation in cut-off marks for the candidates belonging to OBC-NC & PwD category.

IISER 2019 Application Process

  • IISER 2019 Application Form: The application form of IISER 2019 will be available on the official website in online mode only. IISER 2019 Application Form will be available from 21st April 2019. Application forms for SCB candidates are usually released in the last week of May.

  • IISER 2019 Application Form Fee: The candidate can apply to IISER 2019 through more than one channel, but for each channel, the application form has to be filled online and the application fee should be paid separately. 

  • Application Form Print-out: Candidate should take the print-out of the application form for any future references.

  • Preference: Candidate needs to rank the 7 IISER campuses based on their choice while filling the IISER 2019 Application Form online.

  • Upload Documents: While filling IISER 2019 Application form, candidates need to upload the scanned documents such as XII mark sheet, Signature, Photograph etc. Candidates should make sure that scanned documents should be in ".jpg" or ".jpeg" format and the document is less than 2 MB.

  • Payment Structure: General category candidates have to pay the IISER 2019 application fee of INR 2000, and the candidates under the SC/ST/Kashmiri Migrant category are required to pay a fee of INR 1000 only.

IISER Exam 2019 Admit Card

  • IISER 2019 Admit Card Date: The IISER 2019 admit card will be released on the official website from 30th May 2019. 

  • IISER Login: Students should use IISER 2019 login link to sign in and download the admit card. And also students should take at least 2 photocopies for future reference.

  • IISER 2019 Admit Card: Admit Card will contain the student's name, roll number, exam centre, complete address of the exam centre, date and time of the exam. It is mandatory to take photo Id proof along with the Admit card to the examination hall to appear in IISER 2019 Aptitude Test.

  • Discrepancy: If a candidate found any mistakes or discrepancies in the downloaded Admit Card, then he/she should report the issue to the IISER Bhopal as soon as possible and get it rectified to avoid any possible disqualification on the exam day.

  • ID Proof: Photo ID proof may be any one of the PAN Card, Adhar Card, Voter ID Card etc.

IISER 2019 Exam Pattern

  • IISER 2019 Exam Pattern: The exam pattern of IISER 2019 comprises of 4 subjects; Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology. Each section has 15 Multiple Choice Questions and the time duration for all the section is 180 minutes.

  • IISER 2019 Marking scheme: Every correct response fetches (+3) marks. (-1) mark is deducted for incorrect response.No marks are deducted for unattempted responses.

IISER 2019 Exam Centres

  • IISER 2019 Exam Centres Selection: Candidates have to choose an exam centre of their choice from the list of exam centres while filling the IISER 2019 exam application form.

  • IISER 2019 Exam Centres Location: There are 18 centres across India, where IISER 2019 will be conducted and the allotment of seats are based on the availability of the seats at each centre. 

  • If the examination cannot be conducted in any of the centres due to unforeseen reasons, the candidate would be allotted an alternate centre, and such information will be communicated in due time. No objection in this regard is entertained.

IISER 2019 Syllabus

  • IISER 2019 Syllabus: The syllabus for IISER Aptitude test will be focused on 4 basics streams of science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.

  • Difficulty: The syllabus for the IISER 2019 aptitude test generally follows the NCERT syllabus of class 11th and 12th of the above mentioned subjects. The level of difficulty of KVPY and JEE Advanced is also different from that of IISER aptitude test.

  • IISER Website: Candidates can check the IISER 2019 SCB channel result through online mode from the official website of IISER.

  • IISER Login Credentials: Candidates should enter their IISER 2019 login ID & password to check their results and the shortlisted candidates will be called for further counselling process on the basis of the marks scored.

  • IISER 2019 Cutoff Marks: You need to score a minimum of the cutoff marks to be ranked / qualified to seek admissions through IISER 2019 SCB channel. The cut-off is arrived at by keeping a ratio of available seats this year and your relative performance in the aptitude test. Also, cut off varies from IISER campus to campus.

IISER 2019 Counselling

  • IISER 2019 Instruction: The IISER 2019 qualified students can apply for the further round of counselling process of IISER 2019.

  • IISER 2019 Procedure: Admissions will be made on the basis of the merit list provided by IISER. The counselling process of IISER 2019 commences on 3rd July 2019.

  • Mode: The of IISER counselling will only be through online mode.

  • Documents Required: While appearing for the counselling the candidates should produce the documents such as IISER 2019 Admit Card, Copy of Application Form, Class 10+2 Mark Sheets, Identity Proof, Address Proof, Date of Birth Proof.

IISER 2019 Admission Channels

There are 3 channels to apply for IISERs and they are:

KVPY Channel - Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana

  • Candidates with a valid KVPY fellowship of the current academic session i.e. 2019 - 2020, can apply for the IISER this year. Cut-off criteria are applicable.

JEE Advanced Channel - Joint Entrance Examination Advanced

  • Candidates in General category securing a rank within 10,000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Advanced 2019 are eligible to apply. For candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBCNC, SC, ST, PD), their category rank should be within 10,000.

SCB Channel - State and Central Boards 

  • To take admission under this channel you need to satisfy the cut off of the qualifying exam before taking the IISER Aptitude Test. The cut-off marks and the respective board in 2018 are listed below.

Relaxation in qualifying marks:

  • IISER 2019 Eligibility Criteria: Candidates who score marks equal or more than the cut-off list mentioned below are eligible to apply for the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) 2019 Aptitude test.

  • IISER 2019 Reservations: There is a relaxation of 5% for students from OBC-NC and PWD category.

  • IISER 2019 Cut-off: Candidates from SC, ST category and Kashmiri migrants the cut-off is 55% for all boards in 12th.

The important dates for the KVPY and JEE Channels Advanced Streams are as follows:
